Description

Job Summary:

The surgical technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.

Assists the nurses with patient care activities; schedules appointments and procedures for patients; prepares medical records as needed.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Understands the different surgical procedures performed by the facility. Implements set up of the correct surgical procedure prior to each surgical intervention.
  • Correctly scrubs/assists the physician and surgical team.
  • Properly handles, cares for, and sterilizes/disinfects/processes all surgical equipment and accessories used during surgical procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, manufacture recommendations, and the facility's infection control plan.
  • Follows all policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Surgery Center and Hutchinson Clinic.
  • Stocks and orders supplies to as needed to assure appropriate inventory PAR levels are maintained in coordination with budget goals
  • Maintains sterile/aseptic environment per departmental policies and procedures and the facility's infection control plan.
  • Recognizes the ASC conditions for coverage and participates in all related activities.
  • Performs all other assigned duties
Performance Measures:
  • Performs all Essential Job functions and responsibilities.
  • Maintains a professional and positive attitude, appearance and relationship with patients and staff.
  • Maintains and stocks supplies as needed in coordination with budget goals.
  • Observes facilities guidelines and polices.
Qualifications

Knowledge & Skills:
  • Experience: Previous surgical scrub tech related experience is preferred
  • Education: Equivalent to a high school education. BLS is required. Completion of a surgical scrub technician program is preferred.
  • Other Skills:
    • Ability to care for patients undergoing surgical procedures and to provide technical and nursing assistance during such procedures.
    • Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care according to individual needs.
    • Knowledge of EMR system.
    • Must demonstrate consistent professional conduct and meticulous attention to detail.
    • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication as well as excellent interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and other health care professionals.
    • Works to achieve and maintain regulatory certification of the HASC.
    • Must be willing to flex work hours as needed and/or requested.
Physical Requirements:
  • Occasionally lifts or carriers items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires full range of body motion.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Must receive annual flu vaccine and TB testing
