Department Overview The Neuroscience Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) provides specialized progressive care for adult patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions who require frequent monitoring and skilled nursing interventions, but do not meet criteria for intensive care. Covered at 100% of the cost for full-time employees and 88% for dependents. $50K of term life insurance provided at no cost to the employee Two separate above market pension plans to choose from Vacation - 192 to 288 hours per year depending on length of service, prorated for part-time Holidays - up to 64 holiday hours per calendar year (employees accrue .0308 holiday hours for each hour paid included in vacation accruals) Sick Leave - 96 hours per year, prorated for part-time Substantial public transportation discounts (Tri-met and C-Tran) Tuition Reimbursement Innovative Employee Assistance Program (EAP) including extensive wellness resources Function/Duties of Position This 12-bed unit serves as a critical step between the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) and the Acute Care setting, supporting early recovery, close neurological observation, and safe transitions along the continuum of care. The IMCU emphasizes patient safety, early mobility, multidisciplinary collaboration, and evidence-based neuroscience nursing within a supportive and professional work environment. This unit utilizes a multidisciplinary team approach to the care we provide to our patients: 40kg weight minimum, age generally not less than 16 years with no upper age limit. Diagnoses include but are not limited to: Intracranial Hemorrhage Acute Ischemic Stroke Brain tumor Neurosurgical patients Interventional Radiology patients Department Specific Working Conditions: May be required to provide continuing care and monitoring of patients in locations outside of Neuro ICU including MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, and Radiology. Department Specific Requirements : Lumbar Drain (LD) External Ventricular Device (EVD) Trans-radial (TR) Band 6 CE hours of annual Stroke Education For your first year: If your hire date was between January 1 September 30th, please submit 6 CE hours of annual stroke education by the end of this calendar year. If your hire date is between October 1 December 31st, please submit your stroke hours during the next calendar year. Current NIHSS, cannot be allowed to expire Self-reflective, self-directed learner who achieves progressive growth Identify gaps in knowledge and initiate seeking resources to identify and manage risks, practicing safely with a wide variety of patient populations Able to advance plan of care when there is a lack of continuity of patient assignments Excellent time management Self-management The nurse owes the same duties to self as to others, including the responsibility to promote health and safety, preserve wholeness of character and integrity, maintain competence, and continue personal and professional growth (ANA, 2015). Required Qualifications 1 year RN experience in a hospital setting BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date. ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date. Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) BLS must not expire during orientation Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation Preferred Qualifications CCRN, SCRN and CNRN are the typical national certifications for our specialty area. Experience in a high-level acuity medical facility. Additional Details Length of Orientation Experienced Nurse External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week. Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area.
