Title: Senior Estimator - Commercial Construction Location: Huntsville, AL About Us: Commercial General Contractor based in Alabama - this firm is looking for a Sr. Estimator with experience conducting bids on multifamily, hospitality, and other commercial projects. Must have experience with budgets north of $30mil. Job Description: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Estimator to lead our commercial construction estimating efforts. The Senior Estimator will play a critical role in accurately assessing project costs, preparing comprehensive bids, and supporting project acquisition and execution. This individual will utilize their expertise in construction estimating to analyze project requirements, review blueprints and specifications, and collaborate with project teams to develop competitive proposals. Responsibilities: 1. Estimating and Cost Analysis: - Lead the estimating process for commercial construction projects, including new builds, renovations, and expansions. - Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to understand project scope and requirements. - Conduct quantity take-offs and prepare cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services. - Analyze historical data, market trends, and pricing benchmarks to accurately assess project costs. - Utilize estimating software and tools to generate detailed cost breakdowns and pricing proposals. 2. Bid Preparation and Submission: - Prepare comprehensive and competitive bids in response to requests for proposals (RFPs) and invitations to bid (ITBs). - Collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to solicit competitive pricing and negotiate favorable terms. - Develop bid packages, including scope of work, schedules, and pricing documents. - Ensure bids are submitted accurately and on time, adhering to all submission requirements and deadlines. 3. Value Engineering and Cost Optimization: - Identify value engineering opportunities to optimize project costs while maintaining quality and functionality. - Collaborate with project teams and design professionals to explore alternative materials, methods, and solutions. - Evaluate cost-saving strategies and recommend adjustments to project plans and specifications as needed. 4. Risk Assessment and Mitigation: - Assess project risks and uncertainties that may impact cost estimates and project profitability. - Develop strategies to mitigate risks, including contingency planning and risk allocation. - Provide input on contract terms and conditions to minimize financial exposure and protect company interests. 5. Team Leadership and Collaboration: - Mentor and coach junior estimators and support staff, providing guidance and technical expertise. - Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure accurate and thorough project estimates. - Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting teamwork and knowledge sharing. Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field. - Minimum of 8 years of experience in commercial construction estimating, with a proven track record of success. - Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building systems. - Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., Sage Estimating, Procore) and Microsoft Excel. - Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail. - Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts. - Effective communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers. - Leadership experience, with the ability to lead and mentor a team of estimators. - Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator) preferred.
