Summary: The primary role of the Project Engineer (PE) will be able to develop comprehensive and cost-effective technical solutions that address client’s needs and increase the operational efficiency of client facilities. The PE will identify and understand the mechanical, electrical, utility, and energy-related equipment and systems and provide technical and administrative direction to ensure objectives are met. The PE will support and work directly with the Midwest Mechanical – Public Sector team, be directly responsible for the development and design phases of a project, and support project implementation and final completion. Project size can range from $10,000 to $20 million. The PE must be able to manage and support multiple projects simultaneously. Primary Responsibilities: Site review of existing Development and scope of mechanical HVAC and control Work directly with the Engineering team to support system design. Establishing the cost budget during the “Verification” and “Proposal” stages for each project. Project coordination with business development managers, project managers, and trade superintendents. Project commissioning and final Supporting Activities: Site review of existing Technical review on analysis and design performed by others for all project Be responsible for quality and complete technical scope of work delivered to our client. Ensure all published reports and other Midwest Mechanical legal commitments are properly risk reviewed. Identify any items that could impact the project schedule or project Be primarily responsible, with limited assistance from the supervisor, for establishing the cost budget during the “Verification” and “Proposal” stages for each project. Establish a contract delivery and preliminary construction schedule with adequate milestones for regular progress Be an integral part of the project development team and produce all deliverables on time. Establish project resource and expense budgets for each assigned Be responsible for maintaining Midwest Mechanical standards of accuracy, appearance, thoroughness, and content. Establish a professional relationship with the Client to convey Midwest Mechanical’s professional approach to managing projects. Manage the preparation of proposals with the Business Development Managers and assist in Client presentations and interviews. Be able to prepare and understand project performances and project payment Work with the Executive Team and Project Team to prepare and negotiate Client and Subcontractor agreements. Project Implementation: Prepare and negotiate, in conjunction with Project Managers, all project contracts and change orders. In conjunction with Engineering, manage all technical aspects of the In conjunction with Project Management, be responsible for managing all cost components of the project during implementation and maintain precise and updated actual costs vs. budget throughout the project. Be responsible for proactively notifying the Supervisor upon determining that a project may be, or is, over budget or understaffed. In conjunction with Project Management, establish a project schedule with adequate milestones for regular progress Manage the job to completion within the schedule. Issue regular job progress reports. Work with Accounting to invoice the Client monthly on each Serve as the Client’s primary contact throughout the Immediately notify the supervisor of any significant problems on projects as they occur. In conjunction with Project Management, be responsible for commissioning, and ensure final project close-out information is completed on time. Ensure all warranty information is completed and set up with the Client. Support job site safety on all assigned projects. Minimum Qualifications: The PE shall have a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering, architecture, or science discipline from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of related work experience. A Professional Engineer’s license is highly preferred. The PE shall be proficient in engineering design and construction in an HVAC and energy-related discipline. The PE must be proficient at conducting HVAC, energy, electrical, and control surveys, analyzing project costs and energy savings, and have a complete understanding of all HVAC technologies being proposed. PE must be proficient in MS Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook or other related project schedule-related software. This position requires excellent people skills, cash management skills, scheduling & and reporting skills, and financial management skills to effectively manage their role and build strong client relationships. The PE must be able to lead a multidisciplinary team and work alongside the Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Building Trades teams.
