The individual in this position will be pivotal in designing, testing, and implementing packaging initiatives critical to our Product Development process. They will be tasked with refining current packaging designs and creating new, innovative solutions to align with our products. The role also entails collaborating with both internal teams and external packaging suppliers to achieve optimal packaging outcomes.

Key Responsibilities :

Guide the technical evaluation of projects and products for compatibility with existing systems.

Spearhead the feasibility studies of projects, gathering insights from diverse teams such as Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Product Development.

Oversee the entire packaging development cycle, from design and prototyping to testing. This includes streamlining manufacturing processes right from their inception to validation.

Examine engineering blueprints and product details to determine packaging needs considering factors like the product's characteristics, safety needs, and material requirements.

Offer support to plant operations by introducing innovative packaging techniques and continual enhancement strategies.

Efficiently transition products post-launch to the Operations team.

Resolve any challenges related to packaging - be it design, material, or process - ensuring solutions are inventive, timely, and economical.

Handle the formulation, execution, and coordination of capital budgets pertinent to equipment and processes. Ensure all projects adhere to the stipulated budget.

Spearhead significant capital projects when required. This encompasses new equipment/process setups, determining plant layouts, introducing manufacturing automation, and overseeing maintenance-centric projects.

Formulate benchmarks for evaluating suppliers and actively participate in the selection of packaging vendors.

Drive cost-reduction initiatives concerning packaging materials, manpower, efficiency, logistics, and storage.

Ensure the workplace adheres to food safety standards. In any deviation from these standards, take decisive action, including halting processes and notifying the concerned authority.

Undertake any other responsibilities as deemed necessary.

Educational & Professional Background :

Ideally, a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Packaging Engineering. Degrees in Food Process and Industrial streams are also accepted.

A minimum of 5 years experience in the industrial or consumer packaging sector.

Familiarity with packaging design validation standards (e.g., ISO, ASTM) and adeptness in CAD software.

Track record in rolling out new food processing technologies and processes.

Proven experience in overseeing projects from ideation to validation, including equipment specification, installation, commissioning, qualification, and verification.

Acquaintance with sanitary design, USDA, FDA food processing, HACCP, OSHA, and other relevant food production benchmarks.

Capability to manage and prioritize multiple projects concurrently.
