We are recognized by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) with a national Clinical Trials Participation Award, FCS offers patients access to more clinical trials than any private oncology practice in Florida. Our patients have access to ground-breaking therapies, in a community setting, and may participate in national clinical research studies of drugs and treatment protocols. In the past five years, the majority of new cancer drugs approved for use in the U.S. were studied in clinical trials with FCS participation prior to approval.
Through our partnership with Sarah Cannon, we are one of the largest clinical research organizations in the United States. Often, FCS leads the nation in initiating research studies and offering ground-breaking new therapies to patients.
SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Radiation Therapy Physicist and/or the Radiation Oncologist calculate computerized isodose plans for radiation oncology patients. Register CT, PET/CT and/or MRI images to generate and compute standard dose calculations and determine computerized generation of isodose curves for radiation treatment programs. Calculate treatment machine settings, document calculations, and record treatment data in therapy chart.
PRIMARY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare treatment aids and beam modifying devices, including head holders, molds, shields, cradles, compensators, and others as needed.
Assist in imaging localization procedures, using CT or conventional radiographic techniques.
Transfer of CT, PET, and MRI datasets to develop anatomical structures.
Register PET/CT or MRI images with our simulation CT’s to create extremely accurate, deformable fusion/registration.
Assist in outlining of anatomical structures and the planning target volume in three dimensions. Demonstrate proficiency in the practice of medical dosimetry by creating and calculating highly conformal, computerized isodose plans for all types of radiation oncology patients/tumor types and locations utilizing the full range of external beam treatment techniques including IMRT, VMAT, SBRT and SRS.
Discuss with the physician the aim of the treatment, including planned tumor doses and maximum acceptable doses to normal tissue.
Generate isodose distributions via computer and performs calculations for the accurate delivery of the prescribed dose.
Presents these to the physician and/or physicist as well as discusses alternatives.
Create meaningful PDF plan documentation (including label proper anatomical direction), secondary calculations and maintain them in Treatment Management System (TMS) to support any and all appropriate planning charges.
Calculate required treatment time or monitor setting for delivery of prescribed dose.
Assist in verification of treatment plans through treatment simulation using CT or conventional radiographic techniques.
Assist the therapist staff in the implementation of treatment plans.
Enter treatment parameters in Treatment Management System.
Assist in routine quality control program to include weekly chart checks, chart rounds, etc. Participate in clinical research for the development and implementation of new treatment techniques.
Provide treatment-planning instruction to staff, residents, and students as required.
Assist in record keeping and documentation of treatment parameters for all patients undergoing radiation therapy.
Document and perform patient billing information accurately and in a timely manner.
Maintain inventory of radioactive substances.
Correctly load and unload radioactive substances into designated devices as prescribed by a physician.
Assist in localization procedures of intracavitary or interstitial sources or seeds.
Assist in treatment implementation of brachytherapy cases.
Incorporate compliance with department and state policies and procedures into patient care and treatment planning.
Participate in continuing education in the area of current treatment planning techniques and advances in medical dosimetry.
Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information at all times. Expected to work at any Company location to help meet the Company’s business needs.
Expected to work overtime when given sufficient notice of required overtime.
Adhere to all company and departmental policies and procedures.
Keep work area and records in a neat and orderly manner.
Maintain all company equipment in a safe and working order.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS
& LICENSES:
Bachelor of Science required (master’s degree in medical dosimetry is preferred)
Certified by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) or board-eligible
EXPERIENCE:
At least one year of full-time dosimetry experience.
