POSITION GUIDE
REPORTS TO:
Director, Operations and Support Personnel
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Alabama Teaching Certificate and Certification in
Educational Administration
Minimum of three (3) successful years experience as a
classroom teacher
Minimum Masters Degree required
Previous administrative experience preferred
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board
may find appropriate and acceptable

JOB GOAL:
Provide leadership for the total school program to include instruction, support services, personnel, safety assessment, financial affairs, curriculum, staff development, parent/community relations, student performance, and discipline.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
:
Plans and implements instructional goals and objectives to accomplish the mission of the school.
Monitors the instructional program through classroom observations.
Evaluates the instructional program on a continuous basis.
Provides leadership in curriculum development.
Allocates and protects instructional time.
Ensures a variety of classroom grouping arrangements and effective instructional techniques.
Assesses congruency between student performance and stated goals and objectives.
Makes use of assessment data to improve the instructional program.
Provides human and fiscal resources and time necessary for effective instruction.
Selects personnel who meet federal state and local guidelines for employment and satisfy the unique requirements of the position.
Evaluates staff according to state and local policies and procedures.
Maintains appropriate records of personnel evaluations.
School Management
Coordinates daily operation of the school.
Visits regularly all areas of the school to monitor established school routines and use of facilities.
Provides management of fiscal resources.
Implements a school climate improvement plan based on current assessments.
Recognizes and rewards students and staff for their accomplishments.
Promotes acceptance of differences among students and faculty.
Maintains effective discipline in the school.
Communicates expectations regarding student behavior to students and parents/guardians through student handbooks, assemblies, discussion groups, award programs, and other media.
Establishes with students, teachers and parents/guardians clearly communicated procedures for handling disciplinary problems.
Implements federal, state, and local laws, policies and procedures.
Performs duties and completes tasks in a timely manner.
Communication and Interpersonal Relations
Speaks clearly, correctly, and coherently.
Writes clearly, correctly, and coherently.
Establishes effective communication processes with school personnel, students, parents/guardians, superiors, and community.
Selects appropriate channel for resolving problems.
Demonstrates fair and equitable treatment of all school personnel, students, and parents/guardians.
Works with others to being about positive changes when needed.
Manage conflicts.
Performs duties in a professional and effective manner.
Professional Development
Participates in school, system, and state professional development program and attends state, regional, and national conferences.
Plans and implements a professional development program to improve job performance.
Provides leadership in establishing school system/school goals and in achieving them.
Takes a leadership role in improving education.
Demonstrates knowledge of current developments and trends in curriculum and instruction, school management, school organization, and educational leadership.
Performs other duties that may be assigned by the superintendent or designee.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel and the Professional Education Personnel Evaluation Program of Alabama.
