Position Overview:

The Product and Controls Engineer will lead engineering activities related to design, improvement and/or customization of condensing units and full refrigeration systems for a wide variety of mobile refrigeration, battery cooling and commercial refrigeration applications. This position will also lead NPD programs and engineering activities related to controls projects, electrical schematics, wiring designs and their integration into refrigeration systems. The position will support system design and product engineering projects for specific customer and or marketing requests for new products or customization of existing products and drive and/or support internal company initiatives aimed at improving quality, cost and operational performance.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Lead NPD programs, and cost reduction initiatives, as well as manage controls projects throughout the complete development and implementation cycle.
  • Support system design engineering and product engineering.
  • Responsible for maintenance and updates to electricals and electronic purchased part engineering drawings, standards, and specifications.
  • Define product/feature requirements and effectively communicate with internal and external team members through the product and development processes.
  • Manage the controls qualification and agency compliance test programs.
  • Develop, optimize, and qualify controls and supporting software for HVAC systems.
  • Generate technical control specifications and provide complete documentation for hardware design.
  • Provides support to other teams in creation and review of catalogues, brochures, submittals, specifications, and engineering manuals.
  • Coordinate and facilitate team meetings, effectively working with internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Initiate, execute, and track work plans and activities to meet customer requirements.
  • Perform product controls competitive benchmarking.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
  • BS in electrical engineering or closely related field.
  • 3+ years of directly related experience required with emphasis on electronic control systems and in developing control box layouts, wire harness routings as well as load calculation of contactors, switches and other electrical parts.
  • Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Experience working with listing agencies such as UL, ETL, and NSF preferred.
  • Experience with Unigraphics/NX CAD would be a plus.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to read and create blueprints and engineering drawings and plans.
  • Knowledge of HVAC control system design and their applications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot refrigeration control systems to identify problems with current designs and make recommendations for improving future designs.
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of electronics, circuit design, electrical schematics, power electronics, motors and variable speed drives.
  • Ability to effectively apply basic techniques of mathematical and statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand strategy, support processes, and ensure implementation.
  • Basic knowledge of refrigeration components, theory of operation, and practical applications as relates to the food service and supermarket industries.
  • Knowledge of digital control systems and electrical schematics for applied refrigeration product applications.
  • Ability to perform electrical wiring, develop wiring harnesses and associated operating equipment.
  • Effective interpersonal skills; ability to navigate and flourish in a global, matrixed organization, express thoughts clearly, is an active listener and a "team player".

Additional Information

Travel: 10-20%, Domestic and International

Flexibility in work schedule to meet and achieve various deadlines.
