****Job Summary****

Purdue Universitys award winning grounds department is all about growing and we are seeking talented individuals for Refuse/Recycling Equipment Operator positions to perform collection duties on the West Lafayette, IN campus.

The grounds staff is responsible for maintaining the iconic appearance of the West Lafayette campus; including landscape and turf maintenance, pest control, refuse and recycling collection, street operations and, snow removal.

Our Refuse staff generally work in pairs, drive Roll Off trucks with rear mechanical dumping arms that limit both the necessity to walk along-side the vehicle and excessive occurrences to exit the vehicle. Grounds vehicles and equipment are clean, well maintained, and include clear backup camera coverage.

As the successful candidate you will be responsible to:

* Operate specialized heavy equipment for the use of removing refuse and recycle materials from campus.

* Maneuver vehicles/trucks/equipment in areas of congestion with pedestrians and traffic.

* Possess a broad knowledge of area to determine when to deviate from schedule to meet the business and customer need.

* Make moderate to significant improvements to meet the business need as operations change.

* Communicate with all parties within and outside of the Refuse/Recycle area in regards to the relationship of material handling and policies, practices and procedures.

* Work independently with limited supervision to complete daily work assignments with significant impact to the campus community.

* Purdue offers on-the-job CDL training, fulltime employment with bi-weekly pay

* Study in paid status

* 100% paid CDL B license with up to three opportunities to pass

* 100% paid medical exam

****What We Need:****

* High school diploma/GED

* Three years of experience in the operations of refuse/recycling equipment or similar truck types, i.e., dump truck, box truck, etc.

* Ability to obtain and maintain Commercial Drivers License (CDL) within first 90 days of employment

* Must to pass departmental driving test; demonstrating ability to back truck up a narrow ramp at least 100 yards

* Ability to pass required medical exams

* Minor equipment maintenance skills

* Ability to climb in and out of refuse truck frequently on a daily basis

* Ability to lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. frequently during course of day, and up to 100 lbs. daily

* Ability to work outdoors 100% of the time in temperatures below 32 degrees and above 90 degrees

* Exposed to conditions associated with Refuse and Recycling such as dust, odors, mold, toxic chemicals (unsecured containers), pollen, noise, and dead animals

* A valid US or Canadian driver's license
