Position Description

Title: Buyer (PU130)

Reports to: Purchasing Manager

Predominantly on site in Roanoke/Salem, VA area

Responsibilities
  • Daily review of new request for quotes, new purchase orders and open orders
    1. Including Engineered Bill of Material, Parts, and Services

  • Respond to request, advise, and assist the site's operational / production staff with new purchased items request
  • Analyze purchase requisitions and review for accuracy and completion
    1. Clarify and review required documentation of materials from suppliers

  • Issue bid requests to similar-type suppliers, selecting best options for quantities, price, and lead times
  • Execute new purchase orders with established suppliers
    1. Including Engineered Bill of Material, Parts, and Services

  • Follows the purchasing guidelines established by the site and corporate purchasing management team
  • Enter and track orders through JD Edwards system
  • Continual use of Microsoft tools, specifically Excel and Outlook
    1. Excel macros and pivot tables knowledge needed

  • Aid in successful site goal achievement for key goals and safety performance
  • Work with purchasing team to expand develop MRP system
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in business related field (Minimum)
  • Minimum 1 year of procurement/purchasing experience required
    1. Understanding of ASME/ASTM Materials and production machining preferred
    2. Understanding of JD Edwards/Oracle ERP Systems preferred


  • Strong negotiation skills and high level of attention to details
    1. Continuous follow through with vendors to support production facilities
    2. Multi-tasking while working on multiple job requirements

  • Effective communication skills required over multiple forms, including email and phone daily
  • Comprehensive understanding of office suite required
    1. Ability to navigate and create tables / reports as needed in Excel
    2. SharePoint experience
    3. JD Edwards / Oracle

  • Ability to work with all levels of production and management teams to achieve repeat success across business
  • Optimize and monitor purchasing activities and achieve repeatable desired outcomes to support business growth
