Position Summary:

The Medical Assistant I maintains department patient care supplies, ensures timely flow of patients, and assists physicians and nurses to provide optimal care to patients and families.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma/Equivalent CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Basic Life Support (BLS). Successful completion of medical terminology course within six (6) months of start date in position. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Capacity to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures. Demonstrates compassion and caring in dealing with others.

Essential Functions:

+ Perform a variety of routine direct patient care duties to assist medical and nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients. Impliments procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice following department policies and procedures in accordance with accrediting bodies and/or manufacturer guidelines under the direct supervision of a registered Nurse, midlevel provider or physician.

+ Reports patient response to care to department one up.

+ Maintains patient care environment and supplies to ensure patient privacy and safety and orderliness of work area. Recognizes malfunctions and service needs and reports service needs in a timely manner.

+ Ensures patient, visitor and environmental safety. Reports safety events immediately including those that are a near miss.

+ Assists in instructions of students and new staff as necessary.

+ Meets productivity levels as established by department benchmarking. Assist other areas during downtimes to maintain productivity.

+ Participates in QA/QC programs. Follows standards set out by accrediting bodies, licensures and safety guidelines.
