If so, we want to hear from youThe State and Federal Programs Specialist leads the development, management, and compliance of state and federal grants across a network of 15 (and growing) public charter schools. This role involves coordinating efforts with key partners to identify and secure grants aligned with our schools' strategic priorities. This position requires a thorough understanding of state and federal regulations, rigorous financial oversight, and adherence to audit requirements. Additionally, this role includes oversight of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education program to ensure support and resources for homeless students in compliance with federal guidelines.ResponsibilitiesCollaborates with internal leaders and departments to prioritize grant applications and align funding with specific school needs.Works with the Director of School Quality and Director of Educational Development for each model to ensure all grant funding is integrated into relevant MICIP plans, strategic plans, or partnership agreements.Submits or coordinates the timely and accurate submission of all grants and grant amendments in Nexsys. This includes, but is not limited to, applications, certifications, reports, etc.Serves as the liaison between our academies, office, and outsourced grant-writing agencies or individuals.Leads the development of Charter School Planning (CSP) and Implementation grants. This includes working with the New School Implementation Team, ensuring startup materials and supplies are included in the grant and purchased, and managing the amendment process. Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations to manage grants, prepare for audits, and report requirements.Oversees the grant application and approval process, ensuring all necessary board approvals are obtained before submission.Manages and monitors the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education program to provide resources, support, and compliance with federal regulations for homeless students. This includes ensuring each academy's homeless liaison is appropriately certified by the Michigan Department of Education and has the proper training and resources to oversee the program. Supports the finance team in grant tracking and reporting. Manages grant budgets and ensures accurate allocation and reporting of funds, adhering to strict state and federal financial requirements.Demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement by regularly assessing state and federal grant processes and policies, identifying opportunities for increased efficiency and accuracy, and, in partnership with the director of school quality, proactively implementing solutions that enhance the overall effectiveness of state and federal programs.RequirementsMinimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in education, public administration, business, or a related field.Knowledge of state and federal grant regulations, including audit and compliance requirements.Knowledge of consolidated application and funding systems and cycles.Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple grants simultaneously.Proven collaboration and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, school leaders, and external stakeholders.High proficiency in grant management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant financial software.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess program effectiveness and compliance.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly explain complex regulations and requirements.Valid Driver's License or ability to provide transportation to school locations or meetings. Travel Requirements 10% of working schedule.Desired RequirementsWorking knowledge of Nexsys and Federal and State funding sourcesDemonstrated success in budget management and financial oversight of grant-funded programs.Strong understanding of Michigan's charter school system, public school finance, and regulatory requirements.Experience working within a charter school network or public school environment in Michigan.Knowledge of McKinney-Vento Homeless Education program requirements and experience in supporting homeless students.Schedule and Job LocationSalary, Full-time, year-round. Location is flexible.
