Job Description

As T-Mobile is developing and supporting more of its own branded experiences, the role of the Hardware Engineering Program Manager (EPM) is to plan and direct hardware development efforts including small-scale proof of concepts, up to full scale, retail-ready devices, moving the program through the product development lifecycle. The EPM organizes the necessary team members and resources moving the product from early concept, through requirements, industrial design, detailed hardware engineering (mechanical, electrical, RF), manufacturing validation, reliability testing, industry certifications, to T-Mobile lab testing, with a clear focus on driving products to a successful completion. The EPM is responsible for defining and managing the overall program plan, including developing a detailed schedule, defining necessary engineering stage gates, leadership check points, critical paths, contingency plans, scope, and budget for the program. This is a hybrid position required to be working in-office at least 3 days a week. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program scheduling, planning, and budget - The EPM facilitates the creation of the project plan and master schedule with the team, ensuring timely delivery of the various device development work streams for both internal and external partner teams working on the program. He/she is responsible for examining product related technical documentation (product requirements documents, engineering requirements, technical requirements, testing and lab entry documentation) for completeness and latest versions and ensures availability and distribution to all project team members. Ensures a complete understanding of the budget and expected spend, both OPEX and CAPEX and monitors and reports on any changes. Hardware design, development and manufacturing - The EPM owns defining and ensuring that entry and exit criteria are met for each device development and manufacturing phase (Proto, EVT, DVT, PVT, and MP), prior to advancing to the next phase in the hardware development lifecycle. The EPM works with all parties, internal and external to ensure that what is being delivered will meet all technical and desired quality requirements. Program monitoring, risk mitigation, and reporting - The EPM constantly monitors progress and performance against the program plan, ensures team alignment, and regularly communicates status and changes to the program. As needed, the EPM will highlight and escalate any issues and articulate potential impacts to the program's ability to achieve the desired product goals, including budget, product quality, feature set and/or schedule changes. ODM engagement, coordination and oversight - The EPM participates in supporting the evaluation of hardware engineering team capabilities and on-site factory audits with potential Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)/Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs), providing technical evaluation reports to inform partner selection decisions. Once selected, they serve as the primary POC with ODMs and other engineering third parties, managing lines of communication, work progress, schedule coordination, escalations, and ultimately product wind down when the product has reached EOL. Leadership - Works with Director and above level peers to resolve cross-functional and project issues. Influences/manages the factors that create scope creep. Can manage and help others to understand the implications of change including legitimate scope shift.
