Description

Zingerman's Bakehouse is hiring a Retail Salesperson to work in our Bakeshop

Our retail staff assist Bakeshop guests in an exciting, viable retail business, selling some of the country's best artisan bread, cakes, pastries, soups and sandwiches.

  • Shifts are 8 hours and are between the hours of 9am-8pm

Compensation: $15.50/hour, negotiable based on experience, plus tips

What are the requirements and skills needed for this job?

Experience:

To be considered for this position all applicants must have one of the following criteria:
  • Previous experience working in retail sales, sales, or customer service
  • Ability to clearly communicate or demonstrate sufficient ability to meet the essential job functions of this position through other personal/professional or educational experiences
Availability:
  • Up to 8 hour shifts
  • Shift times may vary between 9am-8pm
  • Full-time, 32-40 hour work weeks
  • Available to work at least 1 weekend day (Saturday, Sunday)
  • Full availability in November and December (we don't take any extra time off during these months)
Physical Demands:
  • Able to lift up 50 pounds repeatedly during an 8 hour shift
  • Standing, lifting , twisting, turning, reaching, and bending for duration of an 8 hour shift
  • Repetitive motion
  • Some indoor/outdoor work required when delivering orders to Curbside pick-up customers
Essential Job Functions:
  • Treats customers and co-workers with courtesy and respect
  • Able to find out what the customer wants
  • Assist guests with product selection and product knowledge accurately, politely, and enthusiastically
  • Provide great service over the phone
  • Able to accurately handle purchases using our Point of Sale system, credit card machines, and cash handling
  • Ability to learn our product rotation, order system and schedule to accurately take and place orders
  • Willingness and ability to learn about our products and effectively and enthusiastically communicate information to our guests
  • Follow all store opening and closing procedures
  • Maintain clean work environment
  • Disposing properly of trash and recyclables
  • Packaging Product
  • Stocking product and maintaining signage
  • Operating bread slicer and using sharp knives
  • Grinding, scaling, and brewing coffee
  • Able to work well under pressure of deadlines
  • Work in a clean and organized fashion

Who are we?

Zingerman's Bakehouse is a wholesale bakery, retail shop, and baking school for home bakers. We sell to specialty food stores, cafs and restaurants in southeastern Michigan as well as selling to Zingerman's Mail Order, who ships our baked goods everywhere in the United States. We are dedicated bakers and food lovers committed to making and selling the best breads, pastries and cakes we can imagine. We are real artisan bakers, meaning we use traditional methods and flavorful ingredient to make our food.

Where are we?

Zingerman's Bakehouse is located on the south side of Ann Arbor at 3711 Plaza Drive. While there is a bus stop within walking distance, the Bakehouse is NOT located on AATA bus route.

Who are we hiring?

The Bakehouse is looking for retail staff. Shifts are around 8 hours between 7am-7pm. We are looking for team members who are available to work weekends and holidays.

What's the hiring process like?

You can expect to hear from us within two weeks of submitting your application either by email or phone. If selected, you may receive a phone interview, an in-person interview, and/or a trial shift (working interview). From there, you will hear from us to either offer you a position or let you know we are moving forward with other candidates. Our goal is to keep you informed along the way
