Job Description

Job Summary:

The Catastrophe Analyst will be responsible for analyzing and quantifying Chubb's Personal Lines property and Recreational marine books exposed to the North American catastrophe perils such as Hurricane, Earthquake, Severe Convective Storm, Terrorism, Flood and Wildfires. Such analyses require creating datasets from various data sources, performing analyses using multiple models and aggregation tools and communicating results and recommendations to senior management and external stakeholders.

A successful candidate will have the ability to work in a time bound and multiple stakeholder environment. Prioritization of multiple projects concurrently and ability to work independently with little to no supervision would be key. The role brings an exciting opportunity to work with Product management, Underwriting, Actuarial and Corporate Cat departments to define strategy and guidelines in Cat exposed regions through developing Chubb's own view of Cat Risk.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform quarterly/monthly roll-up of the personal lines exposure, analyzing and monitoring catastrophe risk via third part catastrophe models, internal tools and software.
  • Update and maintain the exposure databases for catastrophe modeling, improving data accuracy and completeness. Utilize third party property data and internal Risk engineering inspections to improve and enhance modeling capabilities and accuracy.
  • Prepare and analyze exposure to aid in reinsurance purchase decisions, working closely with internal Ceded Re group and reinsurance brokers.
  • Monitor and respond to catastrophic events in real-time, quantify potential impacts to in-force exposure and communicate to senior management.
  • Work on post event claims analytics to asses model performance, model misses, strengths & gaps.
  • Provide support for Rate filings with State DOIs filings.
  • Utilize catastrophe models to inform rate development for catastrophe perils.
  • Work on miscellaneous time bound adhoc projects as needed.
Qualifications

Must Have Skills:
  • 1-2 years of relevant work experience in natural hazards with a focus on natural perils pricing or catastrophe modelling, preferably in Homeowner High net worth space.
  • Educational background in relevant Natural Sciences or any Quantitative disciplines.
  • Advance CAT model operating skills using vendor platforms such as RMS Risklink.
  • Ability to manipulate large data sets with strong Excel and SQL skills.
  • Highly numerate and logical - strong mathematical/ statistical knowledge is key.
  • Very accurate, reliable, and independent working attitude. Ready to cope with workload peaks, and still able to prioritize. Always show "Can do spirit" and strong team collaboration. Possess a solution oriented with a commercial mindset.
Added Advantage:
  • Insurance industry credentials such as CPCU, ARe, RMS-CCRA, AIR-CCM.
  • Prior experience in assessing natural catastrophe model strengths, limitations, calibration, and customization.
  • Familiarity with using Geospatial softwares such as QGIS/ArcGIS.
  • Good understanding of using VBA, R, Python.
  • Prior experience in working with underwriters. Able to effectively communicate CAT management topics with non-technical audience having little to no CAT subject matter knowledge.
