Current or previous Endoscopy tech experience preferred but not required. On the job training. Must be able to wear lead aprons for extended length of time.Under the direct supervision of licensed nursing personnel and the credentialed provider, performs a variety of routine duties to assist the nurses and the provider in the delivery of patient care. Processes and maintains reusable endoscopy supplies and equipment in accordance with department, manufactures IFUs, Hospital policies and procedures.Position Reports To: Perianeshesia Endoscopy Supervisor, Manager, Director Essential FunctionsDemonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide direct care to patients under the direction of licensed personnel.Cleans and prepares stretchers for use by incoming patients.Assembles necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment prior to start of each case.Assists RN and MD during endoscopy procedures as directed.Assists in transferring patients from unit to floor.Assists with lifting, moving, and positioning patients at the nurse's request.Participates in maintaining proper inventory levels of supplies.Demonstrates the ability to neatly organize all work areas.Assists in checking for availability and proper condition of necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment prior to start of every endoscopy procedure.Items are neatly arranged and organized prior to procedure.Demonstrates a clear understanding of all control measures.Correctly tests and documents Minimum Effective Concentration (MEC) of OPA.Correctly tests and documents effectiveness of OPA test strips.Correctly changes out OPA in Custom Ultrasonic Scopewasher.Correctly loads and unloads equipment in Custom Ultrasonic and Steris Scopewasher.Correctly operates Custom Ultrasonic and Steris Scopewasher.Correctly manually disinfects scope when needed.Correctly operates the Scope Buddy System.Correctly performs ATP testing on all endoscopes.Performs all required duties for decontamination of equipment.Performs leak test on all endoscopes prior to reprocessing.Endoscopy scopes and accessory equipment are thoroughly washed and disinfected according to manufacturers' instructions and hospital policy.Determines appropriate mode of disinfecting for all reusable endoscopy items.Meticulously inspects all equipment and instruments for proper function and cleanliness before storage.Labels and reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate person.Work area is washed daily with disinfectant.Equipment is cleaned and disinfected according to manufacturers' instructions.Regulatory logs are completed with the appropriate documentation accurately.Demonstrates and understands established emergency, infection control, and universal precaution procedures.Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job-related hazards.Attends all required safety education programs.Wears the appropriate PPE during the scope reprocessing process and when handling any hazardous chemicals.Wears dosimeter appropriately during all procedures.Provides complete and accurate responses to safety questions.Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner as instructed.Maintains work area and equipment in condition required by department standards.Demonstrates proper care and handling of instruments and equipment in all areas of department.Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions.Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of personal protective equipment.Ensures a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.Attends annual education programs.Wears/uses appropriate safety equipment.Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous hospital environment.Interacts with all the above in a considerate, helpful, and courteous manner as outlined in the Code of time/readily accepts assignments as observed by nurse manager.Reports to work on time and is at work as scheduled, as observed by nurse manager.Reports to work within 20 minutes if services are needed when scheduled mandatory call coverage.Assumes all other duties and responsibilities necessary.Demonstrates dependability/flexibility in meeting scheduling needs of the unit and hospital.Takes telephone messages for area and refers calls to staff and physicians which require their response.Participates in orienting new employees to the Endoscopy unit.Participates in competency-verifying of staff.Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.Other duties as assigned.Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times. QualificationsRequired:High school graduate or equivalent.Must obtain a Surgical Tech-Registration within 90 days of onboarding.Complete unit-specific orientation.Active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.Obtain Certificate of Completion from the SGNA Program within 1 year of onboarding.Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.Must possess basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, mouse usage, keyboarding, email communication and password management.Must be able to wear Lead or use alternate appropriate level of protection to decrease risk of exposure of radiation. Desired:Previous GI tech experience or equivalent.Previous healthcare experience. Hours maybe irregular at times and some overtime maybe involved. Requires working under stressful conditions. Requires providing assistance to the Providers with the proper handling and operating of the endoscopes. Requires annual scope reprocessing competency and maintaining regulatory logs for equipment and endoscopes.
