Job Description

The electrical designer is responsible to design electrical systems as required for all projects that are assigned to him/her by the President. The electrical designer will be responsible to manage all design aspects of the project from conception to completion with minimal assistance from senior staff members. The electrical designer is responsible to draft the design on AutoCAD. This position will require some travelling and essentially will be required to be on the construction site, in some cases at least once a week. The electrical designer is expected to conduct multiple projects simultaneously and conduct project meetings with owners and contractors.

Key Responsibility Areas:

1.

Develop, monitor and control

Project scope, project schedule, budget and resources within the customers’ established guidelines in order to meet or exceed the customers’ expectation.

2.

Obtain, diagnose and respond

to specific customer needs that will enhance the quality of customers’ service and satisfaction for a mutually beneficial relationship.

3.

Initiate,

complete and deliver

all related project documentation, reports in order to maintain and achieve the established project goals.

4.

Promote

services to existing customer base while conducting services for them.

5.

Identify and initiate

key design issues and solutions in the beginning of projects.

Technical Skills :

Understands and proficient in the electrical consulting engineering business, design and bid documents, change orders, meeting notes, codes, etc.

·

Understands electrical distribution system – Voltage, Current, Power, and Power Factor, Single vs. Three-phase power distribution system on construction documents and in the field.

·

Understands and capable of designing the following systems:

a.

Lighting systems b.

Lighting Controls c.

Emergency Lighting System d.

Exterior lighting System e.

Standby generator systems f.

Power distribution g.

Uninterruptible Power systems (UPS) h.

Life safety systems i.

Motor controls j.

Equipment room layout k.

Switchgear and switchboard systems l.

Electrical service Entrance m.

Short Circuit and Coordination Studies n.

Fire Alarm o.

Security p.

Communication Raceway Systems q.

Building Monitoring systems (BAS/DDC) r.

Grounding s.

Mechanical Equipment Circuiting

Understands Building Codes – NEC, BOCA, OBBC, NFPA, etc.

·

Proficient in Specification writing

·

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, AutoCAD

·

Understands and capable of providing construction estimate.

2.

Problem Solving Expertise :

·

The rational approach to the processes involved in identifying and defining the project goals and problems, selecting and implementing alternative solutions strategies, the management of resources and contingencies and reducing performance deviations.

3.

Influencing Capabilities:

Demonstrated leadership in the attitudes and behaviors in the effective assessment management and adaptability required in handling situations (including decision making, behavior, conflict management, negotiations scenario’s etc.)

4.

Planning:

·

Competency in strategic and operational planning methods and procedures, the monitoring and measurement of targeted results, resource allocation and management practices.
