**Description**

The Custodian carries out the programs and policies authorized by the Head Start Performance Standards, Field Operations Manager, Policy Council and Director of Early Education and Care.

**SUMMARY:**

Under the direction of the Center Manager, the custodian ensures the physical environment is safe and clean for children and their families.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):**

? Performs custodial duties to include vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing floors, washing windows, cleaning walls, dusting, cleaning restrooms and emptying trash receptacles in classrooms, hallways, and offices.

? Maintains appropriate inventory of cleaning supplies and materials.

? Provides room set up for meetings, programs, and other activities.

? Replaces light bulbs, air filters, toilet paper and other supplies as needed.

? Maintains surrounding grounds by gathering trash and raking debris.

? Performs minor repairs.

? Secures building at the beginning and/or ending of the day.

? Monitors and operates the heating and cooling system

**OTHER DUTIES:**

Performs other duties as assigned by management.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:**

A High School Diploma or equivalent and six (6) months custodial/maintenance experience.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:**

* Must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the assigned functions responsibly.

* Must possess ability to engage in physical tasks to include a wide range of physical motion.

* Must possess knowledge of principles of safe, cleaning practices.

* Must possess the ability to make minor, maintenance repairs.
