Job brief:

The Weather Company(TWC) is looking for an energetic Cloud Solutions Architect to join our newly formed Cloud Center of Excellence(CCOE) team. The candidate will have the opportunity to help shape and deliver a strategy to have a best-in-class CCOE within the TWC Cloud ecosystem. The broad responsibilities will include owning the technical engagement and TWC posture for our Cloud platforms. In this role, you will be required to be hands-on in developing, building automation, optimizing, and setting up governance policies for the cloud platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong Cloud architectural background with AWS certifications preferred; knowledge across multiple hyperscalers is preferable.

This is a unique opportunity to serve as the primary cloud architect for our developing CCOE, being able to define and set standards for our Cloud ecosystem. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with a variety of systems, performing a variety of functions, and be willing to learn new skills needed to be successful in the role. The candidate should bring experience in architecture, security, automation, scripting, and security frameworks workingwithin an ecosystem of cloud infrastructure, monitoring tools, BI tools, and workflow automation.Additionally, the candidate for this role should also seek to provide mentorship and coaching toothers as those opportunities present themselves.

The candidate should have proven success in being able to work and partner with various stakeholders including operational teams, analysts, DevOps, business teams, management, and a variety of Engineering functional teams. While architecture will be the primary focus, the candidate should also understand the business value he or she will bring to the organization to help the overall company achieve its goals. This role will report directly to the Corporate Enablement & Systems Leader under the CIO organization.

The impact you'll make:

Establish, implement, and enforce governance policies to help set good discipline and cloud hygiene for TWC Cloud platforms

Monitor the overall health of platforms daily looking for anomalies, potential risks, security vulnerabilities

Define the architectural standards for the TWC cloud workspaces, making decisions and setting guidelines on the right products and services

Identify, recommend, and implement cost optimization opportunities, including right-sizing, shutting down instances, etc across TWC AWS cloud infrastructure

Serve as an internal consultant to other functional development teams regarding best Cloud practices

Serve as the technical point of contact with AWS and IBM Cloud TAMs

Work closely with the CISO team to ensure the best security practices around our Cloud, including routine audits of IAM permissions, access, and other configurations

Participate in, and adhere to, professional software engineering practices using such tools and methodologies as Agile Software Development, Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration, Source Code Management (git), Jira, and GitHub

Identify and implement opportunities for automation workflows, including connecting to other systems to retrieve key data related to our cloud platforms

Work with teams on solution prototypes and go through a proof of concept with new services and products before deploying

What you've accomplished:

5+ years of AWS experience in TAM and/or Solutions Architect role

Experience with Identity and Access Management Systems (IAM)

Experience in automation, identifying and recommending cost optimizations for cloud solutions

Knowledge and skills in Cloud computing, networking, storage, database, deployment, and management services

Proven experience in engineering and architectural design

Ability to work within a fast-paced, operational, and agile environment

Experience in automation solutions using a variety of technical solutions including ETL, API calls, or other scripting

Ability to be a team player and work with different personnel including engineers, DevOps, analysts, functional teams, and management

Ability to work in multiple languages, environments, systems, and tools

Strong SQL skills

Experience in Linux

Required Experience and Education

Solutions Architect Professional certification(s)- AWS is strongly preferred

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or comparable work experience

Data Analytics experience

SQL

Cloud security experience

Experience with various NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Redis, CouchDB

Nice to Have

One of the following Security certifications a plus: CISSP, CCSP, CISM, CEH, GSEC

Experience with other hyperscalers
