Smead Manufacturing is seeking a Controller to join the Finance Team
The Controller is responsible for the oversight, preparation, analysis, and distribution of the company's consolidated financial statements, and manages the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes including variance analysis to ensure accurate, timely, and relevant financial reporting that complies with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Work Environment:This will be a hybrid role, working 3 days in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and 2 days remote (Monday and Friday).
Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following, along with other duties as assigned:
- Manages the financial statements, month end close, general ledger, account reconciliation, and variance analysis.
- Ensures compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements while maintaining accurate financial records; ensures sound financial controls are established and maintained.
- Acts as the Company's Record to Report Business Process Owner and maintains adequate accounting system access controls and configurations.
- Leads the coordination and completion of annual financial audit in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant accounting standards.
- Manages Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable; ensures accounts receivables are collected promptly and accounts payables are properly recorded and paid in a timely manager with all reasonable discounts are taken.
- Oversees cash and treasury management; prepares cash-flow forecasts to project cash needs at monthly and quarterly intervals.
- Monitors debt levels and compliance with bank lending debt covenants and ensures compliance with all reporting requirements.
- Assists with annual commercial insurance renewal; providing financial data to support appropriate coverages by line of insurance.
- Leads the effort to streamline accounting processes and procedures to promote continuous improvement in all areas of their responsibilities.
- Provides mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities for team members and foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's or master's Degree in accounting, Licensed CPA, and public accounting experience preferred.
- 10+ years of total experience in public accounting and industry, prefer some manufacturing industry experience.
- Must have technical and theoretical knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Demonstrated leadership skills working with and supervising a team; ability to set and achieve departmental goals and drive transformational change.
- Proficiency inMicrosoft Office- Excel, PowerPoint, Word and other Microsoft Office Suite tools.
- ERP Systems experience required; MS D365 experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects, lead process improvement teams and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability tocollaborate and communicateacross all levels and functions of the organization, including both written and verbal formats.
- Excellent time management skillsand ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Self-sufficient, result-driven, and detail-oriented mindset

- Travel required 5%
