Employment Type:Full timeShift:Description:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:•Serve as a liaison with physicians, nursing and/or departments for communication regarding controlled substance transactions, documentation and discrepancies.•Maintain controlled substance records and ensure accurate billing to patients/departments.•Develop and implement protocols for controlled substance distribution and tracking.•Deliver/restock and monitor expirations of controlled substances and non-scheduled medications in the narcotic boxes and automated dispensing cabinets located in surgical areas where general anesthesia is provided.•Perform physical inventory of controlled substances as assigned.•Research controlled substance discrepancies and report unresolved discrepancies to Pharmacist-in-Charge.•Label and repackage bulk medications into unit dose system and maintain necessary records pertaining to repackaging.•Monitor controlled substance expiration dates in the inpatient pharmacy inventory.•Communicate/work with the Inventory/Automation/IS coordinators to resolve inventory supply issues.•Reconcile all controlled substance transactions.•Check controlled substance inventory when a drug recall occurs.•Assist the inventory pharmacist with the review and processing of all DEA 222 forms to ensure appropriate documentation for all Schedule II controlled substances leaving the facility.•Maintain records and charge/credit patients for controlled substances.•Assume responsibility for unit inspection in assigned area.•Attend department and technician meetings.MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:•Function as an AcuDose, dispensing or IV room technician as assigned.•Participate in the training of all appropriate new pharmacy staff and in the experiential education of pharmacy students.•Participate in quality management activities, including Six Sigma and QM committee as applicable.MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:•High school diploma or GED.•Typing and computer skills.•Registered or eligible to register as pharmacy technician with the State Board of Pharmacy Examiners.•Certified Pharmacy Technician•3 - 5 years of hospital pharmacy experience desirable.Our Commitment to Diversity and InclusionTrinity Health is one of the largest not-for-profit, Catholic healthcare systems in the nation.
