Description

This role, reporting to the Site Procurement Manager, will be primarily focused on the procurement and inbound movement of packaging and other materials to support manufacturing operations at the site. In addition, this role will undertake Procurement Data Analysis & Reporting and Vendor Performance Reporting.

Purpose:

This role will primarily manage the sourcing and inbound pipeline of packaging and other materials to the site. This role will also be involved in the sourcing and qualification of new packaging and materials to support new products being manufactured at the site. This position plays a critical role in the delivery (and expediting, if necessary) of packaging and materials to the site.

Responsibilities:
  • Purchase packaging and other materials; as assigned
    • Negotiate and agree pricing and terms with suppliers
    • Place purchase orders with suppliers
    • Contact suppliers to get updates on orders, expedite, and troubleshoot late shipments if necessary
  • Identify potential packaging suppliers and materials; request samples, technical data, specifications and cost
  • Lead the qualification process of any new packaging items or suppliers
  • Maintain personal knowledge of market trends including analysis of market drivers, cost structures and technical improvements
  • Actively seek opportunities to improve quality, service and cost of all packaging materials/services
  • Conduct RFPs to optimize the supply chain
  • Resolve freight/shipment issues, address quality concerns and pricing discrepancies
  • Arrange return, replacement and credit for any problem deliveries
  • Monitor purchases and inventory replenishment of packaging and material inventories to meet weekly production requirements
  • Interface with Marketing and suppliers on product changes and new product implementation
  • Support cross functional activities and interact with Logistics, Quality, Marketing, R & D and Sales to assess current and future sourcing requirements
  • Coordinate regularly with scheduling, accounting, and production departments
  • Undertake detailed procurement and usage reporting
  • Dispose of surplus packaging and materials where applicable
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree (Business Administration, Accounting, Food Science or related discipline preferred)
  • 5 or more years of professional Packaging procurement experience highly preferred (Food Packaging Purchasing and/or Logistics experience preferred)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • ERP system experience, possibly as a power user
  • Proficient in MS Office including Excel (formulas, v-lookups, index and pivot tables) and PowerPoint (Power BI (or similar) experience desirable)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older
