Mortenson is seeking an experienced Project Engineer I to work on construction projects located in Eastern Iowa. The role requires interaction with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment, demanding flexibility, resourcefulness, proactive engagement, and a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. RESPONSIBILITIES Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft personnel. Implement the pre?construction quality plan. Obtain and maintain construction permits; manage fee payments and recurring expenses. Develop and maintain Material Tracking Log, Project Test and Inspection Listing, Concrete Placement Log, and Non?Conformance Report. Create, update, and distribute contract documents. Establish electronic document handling procedures (RFIs, correspondence). Incorporate procedures and protocols for project closeout and for continual construction quality management. Implement a three?phase inspection system and establish reporting formats, protocols, schedules, and off?site testing procedures. Notify Project Manager and Superintendent of non?conforming test results or inspection items. Manage submittals: set up a register, obtain customer/architect approval, prepare transmittal forms, coordinate packaging, review, and processing. Expedite submittals to align with the project schedule and communicate submittal process details to subcontractors and suppliers. Issue submittal requirement letters and provide periodic updates of the submittal register to the customer or architect. Coordinate subcontractor details: verify insurance, prepare documentation, and request final payments. Develop and distribute RFIs and Change Orders. Define and implement procedures for posting revisions and updates to as?built construction documents. Incorporate subcontractor as?built documentation into contract document updates. Mentor, manage, and evaluate field engineers. Determine alternative work methods as needed. Coordinate safety and compliance for all team members. Maintain the project schedule and ensure completion. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management. Minimum of two years of related construction experience. Strong detail orientation and ability to organize multiple tasks. Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices. Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, and problem?solving skills. Proven positive and professional attitude with superior customer service skills. Current drivers license.
