Metalexpowered by UPGlocated in Libertyville, IL is looking for an Engineer Intern for this summer. This intern will assist in performing time studies on various manufacturing equipment throughout the plant. Prepare and present results of the studies. Help organize manufacturing tooling by labeling the tooling and creating mater lists. Assist in evaluating processes from lean manufacturing perspective and report on suggestions. Update and/or create procedures, work instructions, and/or forms.

This will be a paid student internship that will provide relevant skills in both a multi-site manufacturing and business unit environment. This intern will report to the Director of Operations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Time and analyze operation steps.
  • Summarize findings in written reports.
  • Present reports to appropriate personnel.
  • Interact with appropriate personnel regarding organization of tooling.
  • Use Lean tools to assist with continuous improvement.
  • Interact with appropriate personnel regarding creating/updating documents.
  • Create documents and process document release.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • Actively pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Class level: Junior or Senior.
  • Part-time hours will be based on class load, but ideally 10 hours per week during the school year and full-time hours in the summer.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of other software applications such as SAP, Teams, AutoCAD/Solidworks is preferred.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Libertyville, Illinois and have reliable transportation.
