About the Engineering Director role

We're looking for a proven eng leader to lead, manage, and mentor a team of devs by cultivating a high-performance, unified team culture. You'll own and define the execution of the short & long term engineering strategy for the bear platform, and play a key role in shaping what the future looks like for the furniture & home brands that love and rely on Bear. You'll be excellent in this role if you're relentlessly resourceful, play extremely well with others, and are a pro at building bridges across the entire business. This is a hybrid role open to candidates exclusively in Toronto and Kitchener-Waterloo areas.

As the Director, Engineering you will
Lead the development team in building and delivering features to the bear platform
Collaborate with product to define and prioritize roadmap and milestones
Manage the full software development lifecycle, from concept through to delivery
Develop and exceptional maintain coding standards and best practices
Hire, mentor, and manage a team of talented & hungry devs
Consistently identify areas for improvement and lead process improvements to increase productivity
Ensure the scalability, reliability, and performance of our platform
Implement an engineering strategy that align with our business goals and objectives
Represent Engineering across the business and collaborate withSuccess, Sales, to establish a culture of innovation, creativity, and excellence in software development
Manage the engineering budget and resources to ensure that the team has the tools and support they need to be successful, and deliver software that our customers love

Requirements for this role.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
8+ years of experience in software development with experience in a leadership role
Strong technical skills with experience in Node.js, Svelte, Postgres, Elasticsearch, and Redis
Proven track record of managing and leading high-performing development teams
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Passionate about delivering a world class user experience
You care deeply about the customer

To be successful in this role, we're looking for 8+ years of prior engineering leader experience with a track record of delivering results. You have the experience at a fast growth company, have strong experience managing a budget, and a roster of developers.
You're relentlessly resourceful.

You're kind, direct, and generous with your time . In order to deliver a product & experience that our customers love we need to listen to them and each other.
You're comfortable with ambiguity.
