Position: Quality Engineer

Location: Westminster, MD

Full-Time/Permanent Position

Job Description for the Quality Engineer position.

Lead supplier to the defense and aerospace industry is looking for a Senior Quality Engineer for our Westminster, MD facility to lead the development of an efficient quality assurance system, foster a motivated quality assurance team, and drive continuous improvement using advanced tools. We require someone who can make measurements and is not afraid to get their hands dirty, set controls, and create policies and procedures of what is good and not good. Effective leadership and customer-facing skills are essential to help drive business up. Candidates with a quality background in machined components, aerospace, military, or Department of Defense are strongly desired.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Provide Quality Engineering support, guidance, and instruction to inspectors, operators, and other functional personnel in a serial manufacturing environment.

Develop, modify, apply, and maintain quality evaluations and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished and finished materials products.

Devise and implement methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of parts and products.

Designs and analyzes inspection and testing procedures, mechanisms, and equipment, and conducts quality assurance tests.

Perform Product Process

Verifications/First

Article Inspections.

Interface with customers as liaison between manufacturing and quality to develop and implement corrective actions.

Experience with the operation and management of Document Control and Configuration Management processes and methods.

Experience with and understanding of “Special Processes” and familiarity with NADCAP quality and reliability.

Perform trend analysis and utilize Six Sigma and Lean quality methodologies to drive continuous improvement. Obtain certifications as required.

Possesses strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to lead Root Cause Corrective Actions and Teams. Proven teamwork and leadership skills; able to work across “boundaries” with multiple functions and program teams.

Specific functions include:

Help establish an efficient quality assurance system and structure

Motivate the quality assurance team

Implement Advanced Quality Planning tools in product development, in collaboration with Engineering Team

Develop effective control and inspection plans

Provide customer support on quality issues

Drive continuous improvement through quality assurance metrics

Use advanced problem-solving tools for root cause analysis and corrective actions

Develop ISO-compliant quality system policies and procedures

Execute internal and external audits

Participate in continuous improvement processes

Lead Material Review Board (MRB) to disposition non-conformances.

Lead Configuration Management activities and leader of Configuration Control Board.

Lead Calibration Management system.

Lead APQP/PPAP Quality Engineer for projects from development through production

Facilitate all customer Quality and Mission Assurance audits.

Co-facilitate third-party certification audits (AS9100).

Perform, review, and approve First Article Inspections per AS9102.

Perform Internal Quality Audits.

Act as Quality Representative for multiple development and production contracts.

Develop and manage supplier scorecards to monitor supplier performance.

Track quality metrics to drive corrective action into patterned non-conformances

Minimum Qualifications (manufacturing experience required):

Bachelor’s degree in quality engineering and at least 7 years of relevant work experience. Proven ability to lead through influence.

Must exhibit initiative and lead endeavors and projects necessary to obtain results through collaboration with other departments.

Experience in the Defense Industry.

Demonstrated knowledge of quality systems and methods.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Strong communication skills. Works well with teams, suppliers, and end-users/customers in all facets.

Solid knowledge and interpretation of AS9100D.

Advanced Quality Product Planning (APQP) & Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) per AS9145.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel.

Blueprints / Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

Proficiency in measurement (Calipers, Micrometers, Pi-Tape, Etc.).

Knowledge of quality Six Sigma and Lean tools (8D, 5Whys, 5S, DFMEA, Pareto, Etc.).

Able to generate quality plans (IMQP/Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).

Able to manage time effectively and work with minimal supervision.

ERP/MRP Software experience.

Experience with Continuous Improvement / Kaizen Projects.

Root Cause and Corrective Action methodology.

Data Collection and Analysis.

Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC/Cpk etc).
