Position Overview : Benchmarks core values include Excellence , which means doing things exceptionally well. Our Underwriters uphold this core value reviewing loan applications and supporting documentation to assess financial risk during the mortgage application process. This role is also responsible for ensuring a successful underwriting partnership with our mortgage-as-a-service (MaaS) clients. Ideal candidates for this position will be experienced in underwriting conventional, FHA, VA, Jumbo, and USDA loans, have strong critical thinking skills, and excellent relationship management skills. Essential Functions of the Role : Review loan applications and supporting documentation for conventional, FHA, VA, jumbo, and USDA loans to evaluate whether the loan should be approved/denied.Communicate with loan originators, processors and the MaaS client regarding loan status, approvals, suspensions, denials, and conditions.Client relationship management, with an emphasis on building relationships with our MaaS client team and ensuring satisfaction with underwriting services provided.Maintain a pipeline of loans adhering to posted service level agreements.Remain current on loan program requirements and company policies and review documents for compliance.Other duties as assigned.Essential Knowledge/Skills/Abilities : Advanced understanding of RESPA, TILA, Appendix Q, QM, etc.Strong critical thinking skillsExcellent relationship management skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAdvanced understanding of self-employed borrowers with multiple businesses and ability to read complex income documentation, tax returns and profit and loss statements.Advanced understanding of Appendix Q,Highly detail-orientedorganizational skillsStrong decision-making skillsExperience Requirements : Ten years of mortgage underwriting experience required.Five years of underwriting FHA, Jumbo, and VA loans required.National bond program experience preferred.Encompass experience preferredEducation/Licensing Requirements : High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred.Residential Mortgage Loan Originator License (MLO) required in multiple states.If not already licensed, must be able to obtain MLO license within 30 days of employment.Working Conditions : Fast-paced environment.Requires normal vision (corrected) both close and distant.Requires normal hearing levels (corrected).Requires working at a desk to use a phone and computer for extended periods of time.Requires sitting, bending.Works effectively with frequent interruptions.Lifting requirements of 10 lbs. occasionally.Minimal travel#J-18808-Ljbffr
