Job Summary and Qualifications

The Speech Therapist Lead provides high-quality, patient-centered care by developing and conducting individualized therapy programs for patients with communication, cognitive, and/or swallowing impairments. As a member of the health care team, the Speech Therapist performs comprehensive patient assessments and establishes appropriate treatment goals. The Speech Therapist serves as an educator to patients, families, students and colleagues.

What you will do in this role:

  • Serves as a leader for all fellow staff members. Demonstrates leadership qualities such as mentoring, mediating, and facilitating problem solving within the department. Is approachable to fellow team members and able to communicate the needs of others to management.
  • You will conduct a subjective assessment of assigned patients speech language abilities during spontaneous conversation. You will administer objective tests to assess patients communication assets and liabilities.
  • You will structure and implement individualized patient program to improve communication abilities.
  • You will evaluate patient regularly during treatment and adjust program as needed to maximize patient progress.
  • You will document progress in patients chart. You will complete notes, charges, discharge notes and patient communication.
  • Assist the manager with employee scheduling. Helps coordinate staffing on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. This involves, coordinating with PRN staff, finding coverage for low-staffed days, and changing shift codes.
  • The lead will attend IDT, ICU, or Trauma rounds.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Masters Degree
  • Speech Language Pathologist (SLP)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Adult acute experience needed
