**Role Overview:**

The **Universal Member Service Representative** serves as a liaison between the member and the credit union. Provide account information by phone or in person, as well as information on the full range of credit union products and services. Open accounts for members, resolve issues, and professionally handle the members daily needs.

**Universal Member Service Representative** **Essential Responsibilities:**

MEMBER SERVICING AND CASH HANDLING

* Greet and welcome members and visitors to the credit union in a friendly and professional manner. Provide prompt, efficient and accurate service.

* Promote credit union products and services based on members needs.

* Open new membership accounts.

* Provide information concerning credit union products and services in person, by telephone, or email.

* Respond to members inquiries and requests. Resolve problems and complaints or escalate them as appropriate while acting as a liaison between other staff and the member.

* Perform account transactions including deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, CD transactions, lines of credit advances, account transfers, imaging receipts, etc. Perform account maintenance including adding joint owners, address changes, and completing any other necessary MSR functions.

* Refer mortgage loan requests to Mortgage Loan Assistants or Mortgage Loan Officers.

* Open, balance, and close cash drawer when serving in MSR capacity. Maintain appropriate cash levels in drawers based on branchs cash drawer limits.

* May handle Vault responsibilities including managing branch and MSR cash supply, when needed.

* Assist with mailed-in, ATM, night deposits, and/or ATM balancing, when needed

CONSUMER LENDING

* Manage the entire consumer loan process from initiation through closing, including interviewing loan applicants, determining loan eligibility, reviewing applications for accuracy and providing timely and accurate disclosures while operating with moderate credit authority and complying with the credit union's lending policies.

* Prepares file for underwriting by reviewing and analyzing documentation from borrowers to determine validity and authenticity; maintain communication with underwriter to provide clarification or additional information, if requested.

* Monitor processing progress to ensure loan file is ready for closing in a timely manner.

* Provide financial counseling to members at their request or when evidence indicates there are financial difficulties.

* Recommend deposit and loan products best suited to meet each member's unique needs.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT/OTHER

* Promote the Credit Union to individuals and groups in the community and participate in business development efforts to promote Self-Help lending products including mortgage, consumer loan, and all other products as needed

* Perform various administrative tasks.

* Mail receipts and checks to members as indicated by policy and procedure.

* Research accounts for deposit, withdrawal, and loan-payment discrepancies.

* Act as role model for MSR staff and provide coaching and development of staff for identifying products that will meet customer needs.

* Assist branch management with filing and record retention of daily reports

* Provide supervisor overrides for cash withdrawals up to $5,000.

* Supervise opening/closing procedures in supervisor and managers absence.

* When requested, may supervise MSR staff in the absence of the supervisor, assistant branch manager and branch manager.

* Execute other duties, responsibilities, and projects as assigned.

**Universal Member Service Representative** **Credentials, Experience and Skills:**

* High school diploma or equivalent and 2 to 3 years of experience in retail banking including experience in cash handling and opening accounts.

* Strong commitment to our mission creating economic opportunity for traditionally underserved communities.

* Preference for working in organizations that place priority on teamwork and collaboration

* Keen attention to detail.

* Good knowledge and understanding of credit products.

* Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work.

* Excellent interpersonal skills.

* Ability to form and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers.

* Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

* Knowledge of basic economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets and banking.

* Analytical and problem solving skills.

* Proficiency with Word and Excel.

* May be required to travel to cover other branches and work evenings and weekends.

* English/Spanish fluency preferred.

* Ability and willingness to work beyond normal work hours, as needed.

**Physical Requirements:**

Frequently requires use of manual dexterity and repetitive motions, primarily with the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Must be able to occasionally lift and exert force of up to 40 pounds.
