KLJ Engineering is looking for a skilled Field Engineer III to join our construction services team. Our field engineers provide technical assistance, guidance, and field engineering support for multiple types of projects. This position involves overseeing day-to-day activities including observation, reporting, inspection, and advising project management on various contractual and project-related issues. The Field Engineer will generate accurate, concise reports and maintain high standards for quality, safety, and compliance in project delivery.

KLJ Engineering is seeking a skilled Field Engineer to provide technical assistance, guidance, and field engineering support for construction projects. This position involves overseeing day-to-day activities including observation, reporting, inspection, and advising project management on various contractual and project-related issues. The Field Engineer will generate accurate, concise reports and maintain high standards for quality, safety, and compliance in project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with research, design, planning, contract administration, scheduling, and project reporting.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from physical work sites, blueprints, GIS data, and other matrices for project planning and development.
  • Conduct field engineering work, inspect site conditions, and evaluate adherence to rules, standards, and permits.
  • Act as a liaison between project managers, engineering teams, contractors, and vendors to monitor communication and ensure quality.
  • Prepare data visualizations (tables, charts, sketches, reports) for interpreting project data.
  • Maintain quality control standards, accuracy, and consistency in measurements and reports.
  • Support project managers with risk assessment, change orders, materials tracking, and quality documentation.
  • Review contractor schedules, resource estimates, and provide ongoing updates throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate work groups, supervise field operations, and uphold safety plans.
  • Make responsible, ethical decisions regarding resources while following KLJ policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 3-5 years of post-education field engineering experience; Professional Engineer License required.
  • Strong knowledge of field engineering principles, construction standards, and compliance practices.
  • Proficient in technical writing, project management, statistical analysis, and use of discipline-specific software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to engage effectively with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Physical ability to walk up to three miles on uneven terrain, frequently lift/move up to 50 lbs., and occasionally up to 75 lbs.
Hours and Travel
This position requires 40+ hours per week, with 50% of the time spent in the office and 50% in the field, with a potential increase in fieldwork percentage during construction season. Occasional travel may be required; a valid driver's license is necessary.

Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Must use hands for handling tools and controls, reach with arms, communicate clearly, and possess specific vision abilities including close, color, and depth perception.
