POSITION TITLE : Automation Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY :

As an Automation Engineer, you will join an engineering team that consists of automation, control, electrical, mechanical, and reliability engineering disciplines. You will be responsible for the design, build, improvement, and maintenance of state-of-the-art control systems, industrial processes, and robotic applications. The direction of the engineering department is to continuously improve processes and systems while achieving a world-class level that brings added benefit to the organization. We strive to push the envelope of capability and to deploy cutting-edge technology throughout the organization. You will be accountable for meeting daily and weekly engineering goals, while also meeting quality, accuracy, and safety objectives. Evenings, weekends, and holidays are required as needed.

RELATIONSHIPS:

The Automation Engineer will report directly to and will be directly supervised by the Principal Engineer. The Principal Engineer will provide specific instructions on all tasks and assignments. In addition, the employee's work will be reviewed for completeness and accuracy on a weekly and/or as-needed basis. Will work closely with the Maintenance and Production teams.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Able to lead and manage automation projects and process improvement initiatives related to plant's automation project needs. Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders commission and troubleshoot state-of-the-art industrial automation systems and robotic applications. Hands-on industrial process support (60% of workload). Food and Beverage material handling processes including but not limited to industrial scales, baggers, checkweighers, fillers, optical sorters, palletizers, case erectors, conveyors, sensors, ac induction motors, servo motors, electrical control, electronic devices, instrumentations, etc. Subject matter expert and technical support of industrial control systems:

PLC - Allen Bradley, Point IO, Omron, Schneider Electric HMI - Ignition, FactoryTalk Programming - Structured Text, Python, Ladder Logic Robotics - FANUC Delta, FANUC LR Mate Automation Network - Stratix switches, VMs, VLAN routing, ethernet, devicenet Database - SQL Server, PI System VFD - PowerFlex, Danfoss Process Equipment - Scales, Baggers, Checkweighers, Fillers, Optical Sorters, palletizers, case erectors, sensors, limit switches, conveyors, etc.

Update one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and P&ID diagrams. Create BOMs, I/O lists, functional descriptions, scope of work, document deliverables and technical specifications, and RFPs. Follow all safety policies and procedures, proficient knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ISA, NEMA and IEC standards and regulations. Perform failure root cause analysis by process of elimination, and able to analyze and problem solve. Can prioritize workload effectively to support company needs. Uphold quality standards. Capable of working in a team environment, open to training, positive attitude with high expectations of oneself; result oriented with a sense of urgency and demonstrating excellent communications within team and cross-functional departments. SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or related focus. 2+ years of Automation Engineering experience. Experience with (Rockwell Automation, FANUC, NFPA, SCADA, etc). Trained and mentored team members in a previous role. Ability to comprehend, read, write, and communicate proficiently in English. Must be able to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and some holidays.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with Lean or Six Sigma Black Belt. Bilingual (i.e., English/Spanish). Experience in the areas of Food and Beverage production. Experience in team training and mentoring.
