Behavior Interventionist 2024-2025 School Year
Reports To: Director of Student Services and MTSS
Location: District-wide (Middlefork and Sunset Ridge Schools)
Summary: Under the guidance of the building Principals and the Director of Student Services and MTSS , District 29 is seeking a dynamic and flexible individual to work collaboratively with teachers to provide direct and consultative services to students, staff, and families regarding behavior management and assessment of behavioral and educational needs of students with and without disabilities. The Behavior Interventionist will assist individuals, groups, and systems through the application of positive behavior supports. This position will include travel between both district schools.
Essential Job Functions:
GENERAL TIER THREE
- Facilitate the development of comprehensive functional assessments and behavior intervention plans in collaboration with teams
- Attend IEP, eligibility, or other meetings as necessary and provide related behavioral information
- Provide individual teacher coaching
- Provide consult services for IEP students who require a behavior intervention plan
- Maintain collaborative relationships with township feeder schools, TrueNorth 804 and private therapeutic programs to support a continuum of services for students with behavioral and social emotional needs
- Support crisis intervention and de-escalation, as needed
- Other duties as assigned
- Provide modeling and professional coaching to specific teams around the use of data collection, positive behavior supports, intervention techniques and instructional methodologies
- Develop materials and provide resources for administrators, educators, paraprofessionals and parents/guardians
- Develop intervention plans that recommend individualized, evidence-based behavioral strategies in a format accessible to staff, family members, and other professionals for students in grades K-8
- Develop relationships with outside providers and community resources to connect families with behavior/trauma support services within the community
- Participate in team and building-level meetings, as appropriate
- Other duties as assigned
- Work collaboratively with building and district staff to promote positive student behavior by providing professional development that targets research, strategies and modeling of instructional practices to support staff in their implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports in the areas of positive behavior response, emotional regulation and trauma-informed practices
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Master's degree in psychology, social work, school counseling, special education, or applied behavior analysis
- Expert knowledge of intervention planning for developing behavior changes strategies
- Specific training and experience in the area of trauma-informed practices
- Ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with staff and families
- Commitment to mission and philosophy of District 29
- Excellent communication skills and strong organizational and management skills
- Growth mindset with a commitment to continuous professional reflection and improvement
- Willingness to participate in regular professional development training to stay up to date on best practice in the area of behavior, emotional regulation and trauma-informed practices
