Under the direction of the Radiation Oncologists and overall supervision of the Medical Physicists team, the primary responsibility of the dosimetrist is to generate external beam proton treatment planning and comparative photon planning. Also, assist with special procedures, i.e., fabricate customized radiation treatment accessories, in-vivo dosimetry, prepare sealed-radioactive source and assist with brachytherapy procedures, etc. Assist radiation oncologists during conventional, 3-D simulation and MR simulation (View Ray) to ensure appropriate treatment plans. Assist physicist with radiation machine quality assurance procedures.
CORE FUNCTIONS:

Generate isodose plans for teletherapy (conventional, 3-D conformal, IMRT, VMAT, MR-Guided Radiation Therapy), Intensity Modulated Proton Therapy and for brachytherapy (interstitial and intracavitary).
Assist in planning and performing special procedures; fabricate compensators, custom blocks and other assisting devices for treatment.
Assist the radiation oncologists during simulations (conventional or 3D sim) to acquire all information necessary for developing proper treatment plans.
Communicates and advises the radiation oncology team regarding treatment plan implementation, including: the correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangement, and other treatment or imaging parameters.
Performs calculations for the accurate delivery of the prescribed dose, documents all pertinent information in the patient record, and verifies the mathematical accuracy of all calculations by an approved method.
Assist the physicists in the preparation and care of radioactive sources and applicators for interstitial and intracavitary brachytherapy as needed; function as assistant to the radiation oncologist in the absence of the oncology nurse; and assist in the radiation safety survey and monitoring related to radioactive source implant procedures.
Coordinate other departmental personnel during dosimetry-related interactions.
Capture and verify all billing codes related to dosimetry procedures and those assigned special procedures.
Assure quality assurance of patients setup parameters.
Prepare daily set-up notes and review all patient treatment records to verify that all functions and entries conform to the prescription ordered by the radiation oncologist and inform the radiation physicist, radiation oncologist, and chief therapist of any discrepancies.
Assist the physicist in procedures related to radiation machine periodic QA, IMRT QA, etc. Available to assist Radiation Therapist when appropriate.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Assists in the receiving, loading, and shipping of radioactive materials. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge in the areas of anatomy, physiology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics, and radiation safety.
Expertise in the technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics to develop optimal treatment plans.
Knowledge and ability to use linear accelerator machine equipment.
Proficiency in image registration with various image data sets to include CT, MRI and PET.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Critical thinking and problem solving skills.

CORE REQUIREMENTS:
At least two years of full time relevant work experience in the field of Radiation Therapy required.
Eligible for certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board within two (2) years of hire. Candidates with MDCB certification preferred.
