Job Overview

The Data Analyst ensures data is effectively utilized to inform decision-making and guide activities across the Early/Head Start, Parent-Child Education, and Caminos al Futuro programs. The Data Analyst, a member of both the Senior and Program Leadership Teams, is responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of program data. This role ensures the management team uses and integrates data to drive compliance and quality. The position oversees the management and implementation of AVANCE's participant information databases and tracks, reports, and analyzes information about children and families from these databases. The Data Analyst also trains staff on data usage, provides technical support to data system users, ensures data accuracy, and reports and analyzes information.

Job Responsibilities
  • Promotes and models the organization's Core Values.
  • Works with the Program Team to ensure the overall program is in full compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, State Licensing Regulations, Texas Rising Star, NAEYC (as appropriate) ISP/PP, and Parent-Child Education Program.
  • Perform complex analysis primarily in SQL to support operational reporting.
  • Interpret, analyze, and provide recommendations regarding data accuracy and data collection needs and processes.
  • Proactively assess and identify opportunities to enhance existing and develop new data collection and reporting solutions.
  • Analyzes programmatic data and identifies trends that affect compliance, programmatic quality, and outcomes.
  • Prepares quantitative and other reports and data presentations for internal and external audiences in collaboration with program and development teams.
  • Effectively communicates data-informed programmatic insights to a range of audiences, including Senior Leadership Team members. Supports staff's understanding of and engagement with data and reports.
  • Coordinates with other leadership team members and monitors the quality and reliability of program data and record-keeping/reporting systems to assess the execution of program strategies and assure that all partner programs are in full compliance.
  • Provide the leadership team with necessary data and evidence for the program's self-assessment process.
  • Works in coordination with the Senior and Program Leadership Teams to carry out monitoring and quality improvement activities.
  • Provide in-house expertise, training, and technical support to end-users on AVANCE's information databases, record-keeping systems, and other analytic questions.
  • Establishes systems to drive work management and data clean-up before major reporting deadlines, in collaboration with other Program Content leads.
  • Designs and facilitates professional development training to support data-informed decision-making.
  • Assist in the design of systems to resolve complex programmatic and management challenges.
  • Works with the ERSEA Manager to guide and train data entry personnel.
  • Proven solid knowledge of relational databases, data marts, and data warehouses.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Participates in assigned meetings, events, and training as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in data analytics, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
Preferred:
  • Master's degree in business administration, mathematics, statistics, or related field.
Work Experience

Required:
  • At least three (3) years of experience in project management and/or systems implementation on a diverse set of projects and/or teams.
Preferred:
  • Experience with family programs or early childhood organizations preferred but not required.
Additional Skills Required
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and Adobe Acrobat, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or SSRS.
  • Excellent presentation, writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Highly resourceful team player, able to be effective independently and manage many simultaneous projects.
  • Forward-looking thinker, who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high-performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle stressful and sensitive situations professionally with tact and discretion, all while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Team building and customer service oriented.
  • Spanish fluency is helpful, but not required.
  • Ability to travel to various training sites; dependable transportation required daily with a valid driver's license, a clean driving record (subject to annual MVR check and policy), current auto liability insurance and be bondable by AVANCE, San Antonio, Inc.

Travel

Travel is required locally or long-distance up to 20% of the time for work-related meetings and functions.

Mental and Physical Demands

General office and sedentary. Regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Use of personal computing equipment.

Maintain emotional control under stress; work with interruptions and deadlines; walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing; occasional: lifting/carrying, pulling/pushing 10-30 pounds.Work evenings and weekends as needed.

Environmental Factors

Occasional exposure to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.). Occasional exposure to weather related conditions when working in an outside environment/neighborhoods and events.
