Library Assistant II Salary: $3,078.00 per month Location: Pearl City, HI 96782 Description Shelves books, magazines and other materials by call numbers, in accordance with the library's classification scheme; files pamphlet material in vertical files and special material (such as phonographic records) in designated locations; reads shelves for misplaced books and corrects shelving; shifts materials on shelves as necessary; removes volumes which appear to be in poor physical condition for a higher-level employee to consider for withdrawal or rebinding; packs and otherwise prepares materials (e.g. films, books) for mailing; inspects and cleans all returned films; assists at the circulation desk by performing limited functions as assigned, such as charging and discharging books, registering borrowers, collecting fines; retrieves periodicals and/or other materials requested by patrons; checks in easily identifiable magazines by posting receipt of issues to the proper record; property stamps materials; types and affixes spine labels on books; affixes colored tape and/or other labeling to books; inserts theft detection tape; puts plastic jackets on books; mends torn pages; reinforces spines; pastes pockets in books; and may perform routine linking of library materials to records in the database. Minimum Qualifications Experience Requirement: Except for the substitutions provided for in these specifications, applicants must have had progressively responsible experience of the kind and quality described below and in the amounts shown in the following table: General Experience: Clerical work experience which demonstrated knowledge of spelling, arithmetic, the ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions, and compare words and numbers quickly and accurately. Specialized Experience: Progressively responsible experience in a library which involved performing various library support activities (e.g. circulation work, stack maintenance, processing orders for library materials, posting receipt of periodicals and other materials, locating and verifying bibliographic information using standard sources, etc.) and which provided knowledge and required the application of library terminology, practices, policies and procedures and understanding of the nature and organization of library materials. Technical/Paraprofessional Experience: Progressively responsible work experience which involved performing technical paraprofessional library work (e.g. copy cataloging, general reference, collection maintenance). Supplemental Information Salary: The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable. Temporary Assignment: Claims of Temporary Assignment (TA) experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements must be verified and attached to the application using one of the options below.
