The Analyst, Personnel Evaluation plays a critical role in identifying and evaluating basketball talent at both the college and professional levels. This position involves in-person scouting and video analysis to assess the skills, talents, potential, character, and overall fit of prospects with the Phoenix Suns organization. The analyst works closely with the team's front office and coaching staff to provide detailed recommendations for draft selections, free agency and trade targets.

What You Will Do:

Key Responsibilities and Principles (not limited to): Be Proactive, Be Organized, Be Available

  • In-person scouting:
    • Attend college and professional games to evaluate potential prospects' performance, skill sets, and future impact at the NBA level.
  • Video analysis:
    • Review and analyze game footage to assess player strengths, weaknesses, and areas of development.
  • Talent evaluation:
    • Assess players' ability in key areas such as scoring, defense, athleticism, basketball IQ, work ethic, and toughness.
  • Fit assessment
    • Analyze the compatibility of prospects with the franchise playing style, team culture, coaching emphasis, and long-term goals.
  • Reporting:
    • Provide detailed written, video, and verbal reports to the front office and coaching staff. Player rankings, skill grads, position analysis, and intel on non-basketball items will be required.
  • Networking:
    • Build and maintain relationships with coaches, agents, and other basketball professionals to gather insights and information on all potential prospects.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with other Phoenix Suns scouts, front office, and coaching staff to ensure alignment in scouting priorities and team building strategies.
What We Need from Our Analyst, Personnel Evaluation
  • Intense Basketball Knowledge: Deep understanding of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and player development.
  • Talent Evaluation: Ability to accurately assess players' skill, potential and long-term impact.
  • Analytical skills: Strong ability to analyze game footage, statistics, and advanced metrics to make informed evaluations.
  • Organization: Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, crucial for managing multiple tasks and ensuring scouting processes are well-coordinated.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey scouting reports, evaluations and collaborate across various departments.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail when evaluating players both in person and through video analysis.
  • Decision making: Ability to make informed and confident decisions on player evaluations and recommendations.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to quickly adapt to changes, address issues as they arise, and provide solutions in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Collaboration: Capable of working both independently and as part of a team, while proactively taking on individual responsibilities.
Technical Skills:
  • Microsoft Office Proficiency: Strong command of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word is essential.
  • Sports Database Experience: Experience with sports-related databases and information management is a plus. Strong use of film editing software and other film services. (Synergy, InStat, Second Spectrum).
Experience/ Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Business, or a related field (preferred but not required).
  • Prior experience in sports operations, scouting, or a related field is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Sports Database + Video Software: Experience with sports-related databases and video editing software
