Mobile Railcar Cleaning Technician- Traveling Crew

Youll live on the road 3045 days at a time, restoring petroleum, chemical, food?grade, and ethanol tank cars to clean, dry, gas?free conditionsafely and efficiently. Compensation & Logistics Hourly Pay: $25 $35/hr DOE overtime after 40 hrs, all travel/mobilization hours paid Per Diem: $185/day (covers meals, lodging & incidentals) no separate hotel or meal reimbursement Field Rotation: 30 45 consecutive travel days Home leave typically up to 60 days (may be shorter if project demands) Typical Shift: 1012 hrs/day, 67 days/week, outdoor & all?weather conditions Probation: 90?day at?will period termination possible at any time Position Summary Youll join a four?person mobile crew equipped with a hydrovac, high?pressure Sioux steam unit (1,500 psi / 135 F), supply trailer, and chase truck. Work includes confined?space entry to remove solids, sludges, and residual liquids; pressure?washing interiors; documenting waste streams; and returning tank cars ready for repair or service. Core Responsibilities Confined?Space Entry & Cleaning: Execute OSHA?compliant permit entryventilation, continuous gas monitoring, dedicated attendant, rescue readiness. Steam?clean, high?pressure wash, scrape, and vacuum residues inside the tank. Rail?Yard Safety & Car Handling: Spot, secure, blue?flag, and ground railcars; coordinate moves with yard personnel per FRA rules. Waste Handling & Documentation: Collect and manifest rinsate, sludges, and absorbents; label containers per DOT/PHMSA; complete digital job tickets, confined?space permits, and daily safety checklists on a tablet. Equipment Care: Inspect hydrovac, steamer, breathing?air carts, gas monitors, and fall?protection; perform minor maintenance. Safety Leadership: Participate in tailgate briefings and after?action reviews; stop work for any unsafe condition. Requirements 2+ years verifiable experience inside tank cars in a mobile environment (railcar cleaning, repair, tank?truck cleaning, etc.). Documented OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146 confined?space training and at least six months of field entries. Ability to pass a respirator fit test and maintain medical clearance. Familiarity with FRA blue?flag protection and rail?yard safety practices. Valid drivers license; ability to obtain DOT medical card; pass hair?follicle drug screen and background check. Physically able to climb ladders, lift 50 lb, kneel/crawl in tanks, and work in heat, steam, and chemical vapors while wearing full PPE and fall arrest. Preferred (Not Required) FRA Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) card or prior car?shop employment. OSHA 10?hr General Industry, First?Aid/CPR, or basic rope?rescue certification.
