GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Nevada Gold Mines IT professional, the System Engineer will bring a strong mix of business process knowledge coupled with outstanding technology capabilities. Key experiences will include VMware, Dell EMC, vSAN, and Microsoft technologies. Lead the planning, deployment, rollout, and maintenance of data center hardware (servers, storage, and fibre channel switches) and virtual servers (VMs). The Systems engineer should have excellent communication, interpersonal, project management, and governance skills. They should also be adept at analysis, problem solving, and conflict resolution since they work with a variety of departments and shareholders. The System Engineer will ideally bring an understanding of the role that Information Technology plays and how IT and OT infrastructure can be deployed to serve the business in a global multi-site mining organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and administer VMware utilizing vSphere Client across multiple data centers.
  • Maintain and support data storage functionality across multiple data centers.
  • Manage and ensure effectiveness of security solutions, including anti-virus solutions, intrusion detection systems, and public key infrastructure.
  • Create and maintain documentation related to servers, data backup, and overall server infrastructure architecture.
  • Provide support for Barrick's North America and Nevada Gold Mines remote infrastructure at mine sites.
  • Continue the standardization of the overall infrastructure and provide leadership in new technologies to further strengthen and add value to the organization.
  • Conduct research on products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the technology industry.
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, managed services providers, and contractors to procure infrastructure products and managed services.
  • Evaluate existing systems and provide technical direction to IT support staff.
  • Work closely with Barrick IT customers on server provisioning, deployments, and maintenance.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering and/or preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an infrastructure support role as a system engineer preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with VMware required
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft Active Directory required
  • Extensive system experience with Windows Server required
  • Basic understanding of Linux preferred
  • Knowledge and experience of operations monitoring and configuration management required
  • Hardware, software, and network connection troubleshooting experience required.
  • Certifications such as ITIL, A+, Network+, Security+, and VMware preferred
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds such as racking hardware required
  • Knowledge and experience in the mining industry required
  • Able to work safely in a mining environment required
