Job Description

SUMMARY: We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Shipping Manager to lead our team at Daily's Premium Meats. As the Shipping Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing daily operations, ensuring adherence to safety standards, and fostering a culture of efficiency and excellence in our shipping department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: other duties may be assigned.

  • Leadership and Management: Provide day-to-day leadership and management for all employees in the shipping area. This includes planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, and delegating tasks to the shipping team to ensure smooth operations.
  • Employee Development: Manage employees directly or through supervisors to ensure effective selection, retention, development, disciplinary action, and performance management. Conduct regular training sessions to enhance employee skills and knowledge.
  • Analysis and Reporting: Conduct analysis and build reports including on-time-in-full shipping analysis and picking/packing analysis to identify areas for improvement and optimize efficiency. Research and compile historical receiving data and competitive analysis to inform decision-making processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure safety compliance of all warehouse employees by conducting regular safety training and implementing necessary safety measures. Maintain a safe work environment in accordance with OSHA and government regulations.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously strive to enhance warehouse practices and procedures to improve efficiency and product flow. Resolve any issues related to department organization promptly to maintain efficient operations.
  • Inventory Management: Manage inventory levels at multiple locations to ensure optimal stock levels and minimize stockouts or overstock situations.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate daily with Transportation Coordinator to ensure timely and accurate daily load out of contract carriers, fostering effective communication and coordination.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor and strive to achieve successful attainment of shipping metrics, identifying, and addressing any deviations from established targets.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School or equivalent education with 5+ years of progressive shipping and/or material handling and inventory experience, or combination of education and experience. Must have experience or be familiar with inventory management systems. Food industry experience is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information before groups, within the organization. Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.

OTHER SKILLS: Must be computer literate with intermediate skills in Excel. Must have advanced knowledge/skills with forklifts and electric pallet jacks.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to make decisions on routine matters utilizing company policies and procedures and directions from upper management.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move around the facility. Could be standing/walking on concrete floors for 10+ hours per day, 6 days per week. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally required to sit, use hand to finger coordination; handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions in both inside and outside environments. The noise level in the work environment is usually at a level where OSHA required hearing protection is required.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. Must be available to work as scheduled.
