Title: Engineer Manager
Reports to: Chief Technology Officer
Status: Full-Time Exempt
Direct Reports: Tech Leads, Senior Software Engineers andSoftware Engineers
Location: Remote/Hybrid
Responsibilities:
As the Engineering Manager you are responsible for providing sound technical leadership in pursuit of our established business goals. You will be responsible for managing the completion of our road map by tracking and reporting on current quarter deliverables. This is management role, but we would expect a candidate to have had hands on experience as an engineer and lead.
Key Functions:
- Lead large or complex projects to a successful outcome.
- Set goals for the team that align with our established product road map.
- Work with product team and leadership to define scope and functionality of roadmap items
- Determine timeframe for project completion and communicate expectations to the team.
- Identity milestones and manage to their successful and timely completion.
- Provide regular feedback to your team.
- Responsible for the technical understanding of the project ensuring tasks are prioritized correctly, dependencies are identified and noted, including at the epic level.
- Work with technical lead engineers to define specs and stories making sure that use cases and acceptance criteria are well defined.
- Assist technical lead engineers with:
- Framework decisions
- Code reviews and overall code quality
- Actively facilitate technical discussions amongst Product and Engineering team members. Managing relationships and expectations of key stakeholders.
- Assist with code reviews. Consult with team members on more difficult designs. Make design decisions that minimize the cost of future changes.
- Determine head count and hiring plans. Source talent in both the USA and offshore. Actively participate in the recruitment process of new team members. Manage all contractor relationships.
- Develop and implement a structured process for assessing, refining, and supporting the strengths and goals of your team. Provide the team with appropriate feedback and career development opportunities.
- Ensure that all technology practices adhere to applicable regulatory standards.
- Perform some data analytics and provide reporting to the leadership team.
- Stay up to date with new trends and best practices in the technology landscape.
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of engineering experience; 3+ years of experience managing medium/large-scale SaaS projects
- Previous working experience as a hands-on Senior Technology Leader at startups or small to midsize companies.
- A bachelor's degree or master's degree preferred in computer science or in a technical discipline
- In-depth knowledge of web systems architecture, design, and development
- A successful track record of managing complex, loosely coupled, scalable, and secure software system
- Must be well-versed in best practices, techniques, and planning for Agile projects
- Experience with Java and front-end frameworks such as React would be preferred
- Experience with Jira/Confluence
- Experience with data analytics and reporting.
- Exceptional analytical, strategic, and critical thinking skills
- Proven leadership and organizational abilities
- Solid team management skills with the ability to work and manage a collaborative team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with the wider team as well as receive and act upon feedback.
- Ability to display clear technical confidence and understanding, prioritize tasks and acts accordingly.
- The ability to use sound judgment to make decisions.
- Has the ability to change their mind over strongly held beliefs and pursue a new path with no loss of velocity
