Performs professional planning duties in connection with the interpretation and implementation of the Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Regulations and other codes as they relate to land use planning and zoning.
This position is classified as an exempt, full-time position with a 40 hour work-week.
Essential Functions:
Provides long-range planning services.
Assesses the City Comprehensive Plan.
Provides short-term planning and zoning services.
Reviews permits for conformance to zoning regulations.
Participates in the review of annexation study.
Reviews Large Scale/ Small Scale Amendments to the City Comprehensive Plan.
Provides assistance to applicants, residences and interested stakeholders throughout the development review process.
Represent the Planning Department at various meetings, including civic and homeowner association meetings.
Responds to inquiries from the public regarding planning and zoning activities.
Assists the GIS professional prepare maps, exhibits and other presentation materials for presentations to the City Council, neighborhood groups, and other civic or business organizations.
Assists in the re-write and preparations of amendments and updates to the elements of the Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Regulations.
Conducts research and analysis related to physical, social, and economic issues. Prepare statistical data on land use, physical, social and economic issues. Prepare technical studies and reports as necessary.
Participate in field surveys to secure a variety of planning data such as land use population density transportation, housing, and environmental assessment.
Performs zoning inspections.
Performs any other duties as directed by the Planning and Zoning Director.
Additional Duties:
Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING
A Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Public Administration or related field from an accredited college. A Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning is desirable.
Two (2) years of professional planning and/or zoning experience in the public sector.
Must hold a valid Florida’s Driver’s License.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must be computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, or a similar word processing program. Knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS and Data Base Management is a plus.
Must be fluent in the English language.
Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
Ability to meet and deal with the public and fellow workers in an effective and courteous manner.
Must be a non-smoker.
The minimum requirements may be waived by the City Manager.
Physical Requirements :
Ability to perceive sound and receive information through oral communication; make rational decisions; reach with the hands/arms; express ideas through speaking accurately or quickly; use visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal, observing neatness of facilities or operating heavy equipment.
Ability to walk from one work site to another.
