Overview:
The Sr. Mechanical Engineer is responsible to support the ongoing design and development programs for both new and legacy products. They will be a critical team member working across all functions, leading product design changes, cost reduction, customer driven product enhancements, manufacturing improvements and regulatory and environmental standard revisions.

Responsibilities:
    • Implement the design, analysis, and/or test planning for assigned mechanical Systems or components.
    • Create, modify and review effective technical designs and drawings. Ensure designs and drawings adhere to established specifications and standards.
    • Support effective continuous improvement and evolution of existing products.
    • Support the New Product Development team to realize successful new product designs.
    • Manage both internal and external partners and projects ensuring timelines and requirements are met.
    • Execute studies, perform calculations and engineering analysis, generate drawings and graphical representation to show new concepts developed.
    • Assist in design reviews of existing and new products. Establish specifications, procurement specifications, quality plans, test plans, DFMEA's, PFMEA's and other relevant design documentation for new products.
    • Create and manage Engineering Change Notices.
    • Participate in MRB (Material review Boards) for evaluation of design and production non-conformances. Complete detailed root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions.
    • Support purchasing and vendor coordination including component and first-off sample evaluation(s).
    • Be able to lead, mentor and direct less experienced mechanical staff on all their responsibilities.
    • Evaluate, recommend, and implement continuous improvement ideas, methods, and processes.
    • Perform other duties according to business needs and as assigned.
    • Remain at the forefront of emerging industry practices.

Education, Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of mechanical engineering experience designing innovative, cost-effective, and products with effective DFMA and lean design.
  • Proficient in designing parts, assemblies, fixtures and tooling in CAD ( SolidWorks preferred)
  • Thorough understanding of materials behavior under load, fatigue, and corrosion.
  • Understanding of Product Development process, Life Cycle management, and Manufacturing.
  • Excellent knowledge of stress analysis, vibration analysis (sine, random, and shock), and thermal analysis using various methods including finite element analysis.
  • Experienced with manufacturing techniques including sheet metal fabrication, extrusion, and injection molding.
  • Proficient with SolidWorks CAD and analysis suites, finite element analysis. Ability to use 3D Via Composer is an asset.
  • Good experience working with and preparing DFMEA's and PFMEA's.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Proficient computer skills including full knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong English communication skills (both written and verbal). Able to produce good technical design documentation.

Beneficial:
  • Safety-related product experience is an asset.
* Electrical engineering experience is an asset.
  • Familiar with electronics packaging.
* Experience working with off-shore manufacturing suppliers including China is a plus.
