Astoria Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is a 218-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility located in beautiful Sylmar, California. What We're Looking For:

We are seeking to hire a 'Relief Cook' that is experienced in preparation with texture modified and therapeutic diets within a nursing and rehabilitation facility environment. The Relief Cook fills in for other cooks who are absent or unavailable, assisting in various sections or stations in a professional kitchen as needed. Will prepare meal ingredients, simple dishes, condiments, and other items as directed by senior culinary staff.

This is a direct hire and the shift hours are 2 days AM shift, 4:30am - 1:00pm and 2 days PM 9:30a- 6:00p, with a possibility of an additional 5th day to provide assistance for special event dinners, as requested.

What You'll Do:
  • Prepare meal ingredients as directed by the head chef, senior chef, or other staff.
  • Prepare fresh produce by peeling, cutting, and portioning.
  • Prepare meat by trimming, cutting, and portioning.
  • Prepare simple dishes such as breads or salads.
  • Mix or prepare condiments, dressings, and sauces.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable health, safety, food handling, and hygiene codes and standards.
  • Assist with unloading, inspection, and storage of raw ingredients and supplies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring:
  • Valid and Current ServSafe Certfication
  • Basic understanding of or the ability to learn basic sanitation and regulations for workplace safety.
  • Basic understanding of or the ability to learn food handling techniques, preparation, and cooking procedures.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain personal hygiene.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.
