ResponsibilitiesThe pharmacy care coordinator coordinates all aspects of patient intake and access to high cost, high touch specialty medications, including oral, self-injectable, and clinic-administered. Responsibilities include all necessary benefits investigation/verification (prior authorization/pre-authorization and pre-certification) and required documentation from the patient and provider, coordination of medication financial assistance for patients that have financial barriers, and following up on therapy for the duration of treatment to ensure all necessary prior authorization/pre-authorization and pre-certification materials and documentation are maintained. The pharmacy care coordinator performs timely assessment of the need for and resources available to mitigate medication financial barriers, striving to be prospective. Thorough knowledge of various financial resources and requirements for each is necessary. The pharmacy care coordinator can strategize and individualize use of resources, including but not limited to formulary optimization (seek alternative and step therapy requirements), prior authorization/pre-authorization and pre-certification, industry-sponsored programs, and private foundation and grant assistance as well as consideration for site of care restrictions or mandates. The position is responsible to ensure that revenue and margins of the specialty pharmacy, applicable NMG practices and hospital-based practices are maximized through the benefits investigation/verification process. The pharmacy care coordinator possesses a high degree of autonomy and critical thinking as well as proactive communication with pharmacy leaders of any issues or challenges. The pharmacy care coordinator maintains a strong working relationship with patients, providers, pharmacy staff, and payers to expedite access to medications while building rapport as an integral member of the care team. Both written and verbal communication skills are essential to provide accurate assessment and documentation of financial planning/course of action as well as being able to explain the course of action and timeline to stakeholders. QualificationsRequired:Three years pharmacy tech or two years specialty pharmacy tech.Certified Pharmacy Technician (National)Desired:Three years specialty Pharmacy prior authorization.High School Diploma or GED
