Purchasing Buyer

Position Summary:

The Buyer is responsible for ingredients related to Sukhis Hayward manufacturing plant and its co-packers.This person must possess the ability to work closely with Marketing, R&D, Warehouse and Production departments to understand the short- and long-term requirements.The buyer will work closely with vendors to understand market changes that impact supply requirements.

Responsibilities

Manage vendor relationships and negotiate pricing, including annual contracts.

Develop policies and procedures for the procurement of goods and services.

Monitor market conditions that may affect material pricing and availability.

Track inventory levels and lead times, identifying lead-time risks.

Maintain preferred supplier program in close cooperation with QA.

Hold monthly meetings to review potentially obsolete materials.

Source back-up vendors to ensure constant supply.

Actively participate in the quarterly physical inventory process

Evaluate and monitor vendor performance.

Able to take on project work that includes updating product specifications.

Education/Experience

Bachelor's degree in supply chain or business-related field preferred.

Five to Ten years of purchasing experience in the food industry.

Prior experience working with co-packers strongly encouraged.

Passion for procurement.

Strong analytical skills

Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems.

Strong organizational, planning, negotiating, and prioritization skills.

Resourceful and have a strong initiative, able to bring projects to completion.

Problem solving aptitude and creative thinking ability.

Ability to establish a good rapport with vendors.

Strong negotiation skills.

Intermediate to advance proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.
