Dean of Students and Instruction (DSI)
The Dean of Students and Instruction (DSI) will collaborate with the Principal and Assistant Principal to serve as a master teacher, coach, and leadership support, aiming to build teacher capacity and ensure continual school improvement as measured by student outcomes aligned with Arkansas State Standards. The DSI will implement the school's improvement plan, emotional intelligence framework, and cultural plans.
Key Responsibilities:
•Building Relationships:
•Model and support teachers in building strong, mutually respectful relationships with scholars and families.
•Collaborate with the instructional coach and site administration to support school goals.
•Professional Development:
•Design and facilitate professional learning for school staff.
•Align standards and curriculum with instructional materials, strategies, and activities.
•Support and coach staff to enhance effective instruction and improve student outcomes.
•Administrative Duties:
•Attend district-level meetings and professional learning sessions.
•Disseminate curriculum and assessment information to administrators and teachers.
•Assist in developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating School Improvement Plans
•Assist in coordinating school assessments.
•Supervise, schedule, inform, train, and evaluate instructional assistants.
•Ensure student eligibility and participation in extended services.
•Assist with staff training and maintain and enforce Time and Effort logs.
•Coordinate parental involvement meetings, workshops, family events, and curriculum nights.
•Manage the work of the SEI Program, Culture Coordinators, Transportation, New Student Orientations, and Curriculum.
•Instructional Leadership:
•Coach teachers, take leadership of a particular subject or grade level, and facilitate high-impact professional development for staff.
•Monitor the Lesson Plan Platform and provide feedback to teachers.
•Drive fidelity of school culture systems across the school, including behavior management, attendance, and more.
•Analyze school-wide culture data and make adjustments to ensure fidelity to common practices.
•Observe and provide feedback on school-wide systems and classroom culture.
•Collaborate with the school leadership team to create and manage a safe and welcoming learning environment.
•Implement systematic approaches to managing and intervening on student discipline issues based on the Achievement Guide, Way and the Light framework, Family Handbook, and Ruler and Conscious Discipline Frameworks and Onboard Educators Program.
•Evaluate the implementation of the Achievement Guide, Way and the Light, Family Handbook, and Way and the Light models at classroom and school levels.
•Coordinate School-wide Town Hall Meetings and manage the development of lesson plans to implement the Way and the Light EI framework.
•Coordinate positive programs for students during and after-school (e.g., campus council, peer mediators, field experiences, special events).
•Build a culture of achievement and respect with families, students, and school staff.
•Educate parents and teachers on the Behavior Management Plan and Student Code of Conduct.
•Administer pre- and post-tests of Student Code of Conduct and maintain files as evidence.
•Address all discipline referrals and student misbehaviors by applying the Behavior Management Plan incentives and consequences.
•Implement specialized positive behavior interventions for student success, including explicit, intensive, accelerated, and ample practice strategies.
•Review behavior referrals, enter consequences into Kickboard, and generate weekly data reports.
•Notify parents of out-of-class resets and hold parent conferences.
•Keep records of student, teacher, and parent conferences.
•Recognize a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors.
•Collaborate with building administrators to promote positive student behavior through professional development and support for teachers.
•Supervise students to ensure a safe, nurturing environment.
•Conduct conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions.
•Participate in building-level SST team and/or grade level meetings.
•Adhere to safety policies and procedures and report unsafe activities to the supervisor.
•Engage in proactive team efforts to achieve district, building, departmental, and/or grade level goals.
•Foster positive relationships with families and collaborate with the school leadership team to provide ongoing programming reflecting families' needs and interests.
•Teacher Leadership:
•Directly coach and develop a portfolio of novice teachers.
•Observe lessons regularly and deliver targeted feedback to teachers.
•Collaborate with grade/subject teams to plan units, lessons, and assessments; regularly share feedback.
•Model outstanding instruction for teachers.
•Professional Development Facilitation:
•Coordinate and manage creative, inspiring professional development sessions in line with school goals and priorities.
•Direct the interim assessment process to ensure teachers are using current data to drive instruction; facilitate regular, meaningful interim assessment data debriefs with teachers.
•Collaborate with colleagues (leadership and school-wide meetings, professional development days, the professional development institute) to continuously improve personal practice, instruction, assessment, and student achievement, as well as the overall goals and mission of the school.
•Leadership Team Involvement:
•Participate in regular leadership team meetings.
•Lead staff trainings at the start and end of the school year and on professional development days.
•Manage the Culture Coordinators to support efforts in character development and positive school culture.
•Assist teacher leaders (e.g., coaches, grade team leaders) in developing leadership skills.
•Model the ScholarMade professional and core values at all times; be a visible and highly engaged leader in the school community.
•Track and report behavioral data to monitor the social-emotional development of students.
•Monitor and analyze weekly behavioral data to guide and support the creation of interventions through the Response to Intervention process.
•Foster strong relationships with families and collaborate with Family Coordinators on family events.
•Build relationships with community organizations to form partnerships.
•Consult with other professional staff, outside agencies, and other organizations to improve school culture and climate.
•Assist the leadership team with staff and student recruitment, as well as staff hiring.
•Additional Duties:

Skills & Requirements
Education/Certification

Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred.
Social work experience preferred.
Knowledge of school district organization, operations, and administrative policies.
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with proficiency in internet and email usage.
Possesses a calm and patient demeanor.
Additionally, responsible for administrative duties including maintaining reports, student folders, and databases, as well as communication with parents and officials.
