The Orthodontics department at the College of Dentistry is looking for a full-time Dental Assistant Embrace the opportunity to work in an educational setting where each day offer new challenges and rewards In this role you will be chair-side assisting, mentoring dental students, and managing digital radiographs For a full job description, please send an e-mail to COD-requisitions@iowa.uiowa.edu.Responsibilities:Keep an efficient orthodontic faculty and/or Graduate clinic flow: Assist chairside in the provision of oral/orthodontic healthcare to all patients including young children and children with special needs. Assist chairside with banding, bonding and removal of appliancesExpose/process radiographs and CBCTs as requested under OSHA guidelinesHelp place separators, change arch wires under OSHA guidelines.Set up orthodontic trays, instruments, and equipment for procedures.Perform routine daily maintenance of dental equipment as well as preparing orthodontics instruments for sterilization per OSHA guidelines.Keep faculty and/or orthodontic graduate clinics areas clean including deep cleaning of units.Restock sterilized and new equipment/supplies for faculty and/or orthodontic graduate clinic units. Inventory supplies and request reorders as needed.Communicate with the lab to ensure that appliances and retainers are ready for delivery and /or follow up with the front desk when patients fail to collect their appliances.Explain clinical operation policies and procedures to students, faculty and newly employed dental assistants.Direct patients to complete patient consent forms; direct to Ortho Business Office for payments.Assist with mixing of materials and facilitate impression taking or intraoral scanning.Help direct new patients to the clinics or active patients to available chairs in situations of patient overflow.Enter codes for orthodontic procedures.Dental Assistant - GC25 (Merit)College of Dentistry - OrthodonticsDental Science Building Salary: $44,560.96 (Pay Grade: 08)An advanced starting salary may be possible based on exceptional qualifications.Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm May require occasional overtime.Work Location: On-SiteMINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:•Successful completion of a CODA accredited dental assistance program or one year full time equivalency in chairside assistant experience assisting in four-handed method of dentistry.•Must have a current certificate of registration to practice as a dental assistant issued by the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners. (QDA)•Must possess current Iowa certificate of proficiency in dental radiography. (QDA)•No additional work experience beyond the requirements for this position.•May require Expanded Functions (EF-1 and/or EF-2) based on specific needs assigned by provider.Desirable Qualifications:•Experience with electronic health record.•Experience taking digital records (e.g. intraoral scanning).•Orthodontic experience in a clinic setting.•Experience with children/adolescents.•Experience working with individuals with craniofacial anomalies.•Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.In order to be considered for an interview, applicants must upload a resume (and mark as "Relevant File") to their submission.Job opening are posted for a minimum of 10 calendar days.
