for a Director of Financial Aid. The Office of Financial Aid has a significant impact on the image, recruitment, and retention imperatives of Shaw University. As the leader of Financial Aid, the Director of Financial Aid provides high-level leadership for a core function of the enrollment management area, and contributes to an improved student experience through continual improvement efforts within Financial Aid, and collaborative efforts across the division and the campus. The Director of Financial Aid possesses an in-depth knowledge of higher education and an extensive understanding of the importance of the role financial aid plays in enrollment management. The director should be an expert on state and national financial aid programs, policies, and issues, and ensure compliance with all student financial aid programs funded by federal, state, local and private funds to ensure that eligible and qualified students receive financial support.

Essential Job Functions:

Oversee the daily operations of the Financial Aid area. Supervise and train staff performing financial aid functional activities. Participate in performance appraisals and corrective actions for subordinate employees. Manage the administrative, fiscal, human resource, computing, planning, and operational functions of the Financial Aid Office. Advise the Chief Enrollment Management Officer and/or the university executive team on financial aid related matters. Supervise the administration of all financial aid programs and oversee a total financial aid budget for SEOG, Perkins, Federal work study, or any other state, federal, local, or institutional aid programs that is to be used in accordance with federal, state and local financial aid regulations. Manage the processing of financial aid applications and the reconciliation/verification of data that may create inconsistencies with the awarding process. Develop, in conjunction with the Chief Enrollment Manager Officer, and administer financial aid budgets and packaging strategy, including the timeline for financial aid packaging/awards. Work collaboratively with other university offices to strategically leverage financial aid toward achieving targeted enrollment goals. Complete or collaborate in the completion of financial aid surveys, forms and reports, including, but not limited to the annual FISAP, updates and recertification of the Program Participation Agreement. Organize financial aid data to present to varying audiences at events such as New Student Orientation, Admission's Programs and Visitations, High School Financial Aid Nights, etc. Work collaboratively with the Chief Enrollment Officer to develop student financial aid policy and procedures. Work with university faculty and staff toward financial aid policy and interpretation and updates. Prepare major office communications regarding financial aid. Monitor compliance with FERPA as well as other state and local compliance agencies. Responsible for coordinating internal and external audits and program reviews. Coordinate the upgrades, rollovers, and implementation of the current student database system (Jenzabar) or any new technology. Manages all aspects of the Financial Aid Electronic Data Exchange with the Department of Education, State reporting system, and institutional Financial Aid Management system; Provides training for staff on all technology that is used for financial aid tracking and awarding; Provides oversight of the spending of federal and state financial aid funding; Act as liaison for the Financial Aid Office in district, state, regional and national professional organizations; Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with other university offices; Working knowledge of VA benefits; Establishes institution-based financial education offerings (workshops, resources, etc.) and oversees the implementation and administration of this work; All other related duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position will supervise the Office of Financial Aid staff.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in administration, accounting, student development or a comparable field; Experience with and comprehensive knowledge of Title IV aid programs; At least five to seven years of progressively responsible professional experience that includes administrative experience in student financial aid and supervision; Knowledgeable and comfortable with technology, especially financial aid management and packaging applications; Strong interpersonal and communication skills; At least four (4) years of supervisory and management experience in the financial aid area; Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service and ability to work in diverse environments and with diverse populations of students; and Skills in using technology to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, and experience in the financial aid forecasting and budgeting process, packaging, compliance and fiscal accountability.

Preferred Qualifications A Master's degree from an accredited university. Ten years of experience in administering federal, state, and institutional financial aid.

Must be able to read, write and speak fluently in English.
