General description

•The Subsea Engineer is responsible for the safe testing, installation and operation of the Subsea Blow Out Preventers and Control System during his shift or as instructed by the Subsea Supervisor
•The Subsea Engineer is responsible for the installation of the well head base plate and the marine riser system including the heave compensating equipment during his shift or as instructed by the Subsea Supervisor
•The Subsea Engineer is responsible for carrying out maintenance, testing and
servicing of Subsea equipment as defined in the P3M Maintenance Management System as instructed by the Subsea Supervisor
•The Subsea engineer is responsible for reporting any issue, finding, concern or any abnormal behavior noted on the BOP or any of the Subsea related equipment to the Subsea Supervisor, Drilling Section Leader/Night Toolpusher and Driller
•The Subsea Engineer is responsible for the safety of personnel assigned to work under his supervision and responsible for implementing environmental safeguards in the work plans
Responsibility
•Night only: Consult with Subsea Supervisor in the event of issues with
BOP/LMRP/Control Systems or other Subsea Department responsible equipment.
•Supervise as instructed by the Subsea supervisor during the installation and
retrieval of subsea BOPs
•Responsible for maintenance and repair of all heave compensating equipment
•Ensure that all Subsea running/retrieving tools are in good condition prior to
being used as instructed by the Subsea supervisor
•Ensure the Subsea Supervisor is regularly informed of the status of your area of responsibility
•Maintain an inventory of all spares on board for the equipment under your control and inform the Subsea Supervisor of any requirements
•Maintain Riser records
•Ensure an adequate supply of oils and operating fluids are kept on board the rig for the subsea equipment
•Ensure that the equipment is maintained and tested in accordance with Company Policy
•Ensure that the equipment certification and procedures comply with statutory
requirements
•Control and inspect the subsea blow out prevention equipment and the heave
compensating equipment
•Conduct testing of the BOP, Choke and Kill manifold and marine riser systems.
•Test the BOP and choke and kill manifold, and maintain appropriate records
•Update the maintenance history for the equipment within his area of responsibility
•Ensure a stock of items required at short notice is maintained
•Ensure that personnel assigned to assist are properly instructed and supervised
•Assist with the training and skill acquisition of Assistant and trainee Subsea
Engineers

Authority
Where responsibility is allocated the matching authority is also granted, unless
otherwise stated. Stop any operation when deemed unsafe to continue.

Documentation and record responsibilities
•Is responsible for the documentation and recording of jobs within duties and job areas
•Hand-over reports.

Qualification requirements
Experience:
•Certified Hydraulic Mechanic or Certificate of Competency within Engineering or
equivalent within heavy industries
•Minimum 4 years of experience on offshore drilling units, preferably deepwater
Certification Requirements:
•Training according to training matrix
Additional Skills:
•Computer literate
•Conversant with computerised maintenance management system (CMMS)
•Good verbal and written English skills
•Good interpersonal skills with ability to communicate at all levels

Day: Assistant Subsea Engineer
Night: Subsea Engineer (Day)

Requisitioning authority
Determined by job grade/role as per corporate guidelines. Please refer to MD Authority Matrix on the intranet.

•Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly and thus ensuring safe drilling
operations
•Work safely using recognized maintenance procedures when overhauling BOP
•Perform duties safely in accordance with instructions, procedures and training
•Supervise safe working activities of any assigned helpers
•Conduct in a manner which safeguards own and colleagues' safety and health
•Co-operate in enhancing safety standards
•Ensure his actions do not compromise the Company's procedures for safeguarding the environment
•Participate in drills and exercises as a member of an emergency team.
