Injustice Watch is seeking a creative and collaborative development manager to build a comprehensive fundraising strategy for individual giving. The ideal candidate is an experienced fundraiser with strong communication skills and an appreciation for community-driven investigative journalism. This is an opportunity to test new ideas and help shape the fundraising strategy of a growing, mission-driven nonprofit journalism organization. Our Development Manager will:

Create and manage an individual giving program for gifts under $5,000, including donor acquisition, cultivation, solicitation, acknoweldgement and stewardship. Manage print, phone, and online solicitations and campaigns, including the production of collateral materials. Conduct research to build a pipeline of prospective donors, and identify, steward, and upgrade existing donors. Regularly communicate with individual donors and key funding representatives, and assist with the creation of approved donor communications and collateral, including quarterly impact reports. Assist with the planning and execution of all fundraising and donor cultivation events. Coordinate engagement and appreciation opportunities for current individual donors. Regularly update the organization’s CRM to maintain accurate and useful donor files. Analyze and share fundraising data with internal and external audiences, and create regular and year-end fundraising reports related to individual giving. Work with leadership and the board of directors to develop creative and strategic fundraising initiatives to advance the individual giving program. Other duties as assigned by the director of development and operations. We’re looking for someone who:

Has at least three years of experience in fundraising, marketing, journalism, communications, or a related field. Has experience writing for a range of audiences, and is able to write in a way that is clear, structured, compelling, and persuasive. Is organized, detail-oriented, and able to balance multiple projects at once. Has exceptional interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, and is able to build, cultivate, and facilitate strong relationships. Meets deadlines and delivers high-quality outputs. Is creative, thoughtful, and solution-oriented. Is knowledgeable about all aspects of fundraising, including key performance metrics, technology (donation platforms, CRMs, etc.), and best practices. Is genuinely interested in Injustice Watch’s work and eager to engage with donors around issues of equity and justice in the Cook County court system. While nothing below is a requirement, it’s a plus if you:

Have event planning experience. Are knowledgeable about Chicagoland history, politics, institutions, and communities. We know there are skills and experiences we haven’t thought of and strong candidates who don’t have this exact set of qualifications. This is a full-time position based in Chicago. Our regular working hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Injustice Watch offers flex-time. Our team is primarily working remotely, with the option to utilize our downtown Chicago office, as needed. Compensation

Salary: $75,000 to $85,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits of working at Injustice Watch
